Bitcoin doesn’t require the internet. And I’m in Australia right now and experienced the outage.
What do you mean, Jack? #bitcoin is NOT #mainvolume’s binary intelligence, and never was. License to operate, kid @jack @jack mallers 😉 Blockchain works better online since how to decentralize elsewise?! Dipped and death. https://i.nostrimg.com/bbafa9e700346e62f232933b61e6ce0e5f2a4be90e70102acc139d1476082746/file.jpeg
Saw a homeless man in Melbourne today with a sign advertising his square terminal.. Unfortunately I couldn’t send him Bitcoin or Dollarydoos, gave him a 5er instead. Any update on this? https://i.nostr.build/QKJa.jpg
wild. things are changing so fast.
It was novel for sure. He had his sign laminated and all!
when i was homeless in sofia i managed to scrape together the money to get a little engraving tool and some polypropylene pipe and built myself (several revisions) of a flute. if you consider he may have had a good day and pulled $40 he'd be able to go further. absolutely horrible being in that situation though. the distance between being able to make and print and laminate a little sign (probably did the design at an internet cafe or library) and getting one of these kinds of EFT terminal, and getting a house is a huge gulf. i only got out of my pickle, in the end, via my facebook blog and a kind person paying for an airbnb for me for a couple of weeks as i chased jobs. got a job, and that was that. sadly the job was pretty shit too... remote helpdesk for remote hosted apps. i ended up in shit over finding a workaround for a provisioning fuckup with a client who had two different companies tampering with her system, theres was low level, ours was just an app. i "made us look bad" said the manager. i had been squealing for assistance for almost 2 days before they finally figured out what happened. assholes. that was the year i got burned as the cryptokitties hack at bitfinex crashed the bitcoin price, and i had margin positions and bam. fuckin crazy world.
I had this idea back in 2016 but didn’t think it would be viable as a company but would be an awesome service. Holy cow, it’d be great to be able to enable payments for the poorest among us especially if it could be done from distance and without engaging in “risky” conversation. See someone, get the urge to help, and help within the 60 seconds you might be captivated by the moment. Will be awesome, thanks for incorporating into square!

Jack new to Nostr, which client should I be using? I use an Iphone, Linux mint and a fire tablet. So far trying IRIS but its a bit of a struggle. Thanks for all your doing.
Welcome to Nostr. Hope you are liking it! There are many great clients. I am enjoy Damus and Nos Social on iOS quite a bit. Coracle.social is a great browser client. Check out https://whynostr.com/join to see other options for the iPhone and browser. Also check the explore page there to see other apps being added to the ecosystem.
I just realised the value of an offline digital payment system. Especially as the world shifts to internet banking and relies heavily on fibre cables and satellites that could be vulnerable and experience downtime. This is useful for regions with no/low internet access as well.
Catch up 🪄
Let’s catch up. Back tomorrow
