when i was homeless in sofia i managed to scrape together the money to get a little engraving tool and some polypropylene pipe and built myself (several revisions) of a flute. if you consider he may have had a good day and pulled $40 he'd be able to go further.
absolutely horrible being in that situation though. the distance between being able to make and print and laminate a little sign (probably did the design at an internet cafe or library) and getting one of these kinds of EFT terminal, and getting a house is a huge gulf.
i only got out of my pickle, in the end, via my facebook blog and a kind person paying for an airbnb for me for a couple of weeks as i chased jobs. got a job, and that was that. sadly the job was pretty shit too... remote helpdesk for remote hosted apps. i ended up in shit over finding a workaround for a provisioning fuckup with a client who had two different companies tampering with her system, theres was low level, ours was just an app. i "made us look bad" said the manager. i had been squealing for assistance for almost 2 days before they finally figured out what happened. assholes.
that was the year i got burned as the cryptokitties hack at bitfinex crashed the bitcoin price, and i had margin positions and bam.
fuckin crazy world.
