 That's exactly what bcashers thought of as an attack vector back in the day. Maxis instead were focusing on node decentralization and no hard forks to set the protocol mechanics in stone.

In the end both perspectives matter and both can be turned into attack vectors.

LN was intended to be a remedy, but it seems to only work in a noncustodial way when fees are not exorbitantly high.
