I've done a bunch of these. The first two days are the hardest, then its like a switch gets flipped and you have massive energy as autophagy kicks in.
 Stay busy and hydrated.
How long do you want to fast for? If it’s less than 7-10 days it’s almost all psychological. Have some tea or coffee, bubbly water, or lemon water if you like and otherwise it’s quite simple: just don’t eat as you said. I guess maybe try to eat decently clean before you start if you can.
Several different types of fasts. So depends on type. I have done 3 day water only fasts, a 60-day juice only fast, once a week no eating for 36 hour fasts, and intermittent fasting where keep all eating within certain time window every day. You have to decide what will work for your needs.
It’s supposed to be a spiritual experience.

Focus on your creator and focus on being thankful for your blessings.

I see fasting as a form of humbling yourself.

Meditate, pray, hydrate and just remember: Don’t tell your friends and family you are fasting, It ruins the point of it.
IMHO fasting has nothing to do with spirituality and I've done dozens of fasts up to and including 40 day fasts.

Its hard as hell and your body will try and get you to eat every minute of the days, but the weight loss and awareness of your true inner strength make it worthwhile.
Some do it for the spirit, some do it for the mind, some do it for the body.

In scripture it is used for spiritual purposes.

I do think you are missing a key function of fasting if you don’t include spirituality.

To each their own.
Fast for a few hours in between nutritious meals of beef, raw dairy and fresh fruits.
Drink lots of water. It fulfilled the tick of wanting something to eat for me and nourishes your body.
Wean your body into it (smaller, cleaner portions).
Plan on cleaning up your long term diet post fast - I found it was a nice reset to have a hard “no thanks” on certain foods I’d waver and eat sometimes before hand. Your body will respond positively to the improvement.
Don’t plan on being stupid active throughout the fast (especially near the end) - my energy dropped a ton mid work week and I was awful 😂

Am not a pro - just what I’ve found thus far (pros - if I’m wrong or should clarify, fee free to correct me).
Avoid carbs in the lead up, bone broth as often as you need, don’t try to work out more than usual until you know what you’re doing
 Water. Fuck tons of it.

Thirsty? Water.
Hungry? Water.
Bored? Water.
None of the above? Water.

Water, bulletproof coffee, push through cravings and focus on other things
