 While white people seem very well versed in oppressing others, they don't seem to fucking recognize when they're being oppressed themselves. I find this FASCINATING.
 @3967703f And yet some whites find all sorts of imaginary oppressions in things like #AffirmativeAction
 @3967703f

Blind spots?
Tunnel vision?
Brainwashed?
Too busy smirking to notice when one is being played for a sucker?
Just plain dumb?
Or the best answer when in doubt: all of the above?

Footnote: I am a bona fide old white person having been called "toubab" (white man) by little children when I lived in Senegal. They knew one when they saw one.❤️
 @3967703f In Pirates of the Caribbean (the third movie) the dude who runs the trading company is in battle and sees one of his ships *miraculously* survives. Then it slowly dawns on him the ship is coming TOWARDS him... about to scissor his behind. He is totally dead. ☠️

This dude is the epitome of white people... they think they are the master minds, have everything under control and then when they realize it is far too late... 💀
 @3967703f
Christianity is constructed around the virtues of suffering and oppression. Most white people's (and incidentally a lot of POC) culture is at most a couple of generations from this. It has been used to justify anything from fish on Fridays to Slavery and everything in between. People will do and endure anything when they believe they have god on their side.
 @3967703f We have been taught that if we behave, we will have a seat at the table. And we believe.
 @3967703f
Sorry for repeating myself but this needs to be said.

Most Republicans and quite a few Democrats are pushing for the social stratification of America, along racial and economic lines.

Almost every white American is here because their white ancestors ran away from a stratified society. By advocating for social stratification here, they are in effect saying that their ancestors were wrong to come here.

They should have accepted their place in that already-stratified society.
 @3967703f Isn't it? They'll roll over like obedient dogs when faced with a lifetime of usury, or child marriage, or cultural appropriation, or historical erasure, but those are cultural allowances.

Wearing a mask is a bridge too far.

An odd bunch, but when you throw away your ancestors to be a generic bag of cereal on the bottom shelf and belong in "whiteness" as a construct, well, there's bound to be dissonance loud enough to be heard and understood. If only by everyone else in earshot.
 @3967703f Maybe it’s similar to when large land mammals in Asia, Europe, the Americas and Australia first encountered homo sapiens sapiens. Humans didn’t appear dangerous. Such mammals therefore weren’t afraid of humans, and most were wiped out before they could evolve that healthy fear. White people seem similarly unthreatening to each other. Let’s just see what happens next.
