Moderation, or censorship? Who decides? https://image.nostr.build/b4a0d72a32c056256fd26051d51d6fc3050f7a77bd874d6280db1c0e5d66bbfa.jpg https://image.nostr.build/2823149e286b292b88a03829ef09d99823bab92c09b17546747007758ed46f29.jpg https://image.nostr.build/a601dbf64eeb23bfbd9f2ecd0078a51784f828d0a7ded7e538128566bed216ed.jpg
Jack was right. They're replicating all of Twitter's mistakes.
He said that? I thought he funded Bluesky? (as well as Nostr)

Awesome article. Thank you! nostr:nprofile1qqsrqe24lmjyxdvzkvhk63h3rdjymgecjev4q95f8476rrr4l4la7yspzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt0d5hszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qgawaehxw309ahx7um5wghxy6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skctcpngesf this is good for you following lunch where we were talking about Bluesky et al.
Thanks. I spent a bit of time on this yesterday and it's similar (but deeper) to Oslo freedom conf fireside. There is also this good interview with nostr:nprofile1qqs8d3c64cayj8canmky0jap0c3fekjpzwsthdhx4cthd4my8c5u47spzfmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ucpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxtnnda3kjctvll3q2p which gives a bit of tech comparison. All the Blue sky hate in this thread seems to a result of massive growth events they weren't ready for. E.g Bluesky have infra for pluggable (ala carte) moderation/filter but only one method exists at the moment. So rock<==>hard place. I like Nostr protocol but I doubt I personally would be immune to the ethical dillemmas that come with no moderation or at the very least default "protective" filtering for children. I was in Amethyst only 15 mins before I was privileged to get a video of some dude wanking. This is with a tiny user base, imagine if the post election X bump here was a tsunami. More to think on. https://youtu.be/iIwBDvkkEnQ?si=MD0gVbCFNqrwv0bv
I have been using amethyst for months and never seen such dude or any other despicable content can you tell us what did you do to get such content?
was clicking around to see who I could follow. I think I was in one of the default amethyst channels, clicked on a user and it was in their threads. I'm neither a prude or making a big deal of it, just have been in security since before Bill said https://www.theregister.com/2004/01/26/well_kill_spam_in_two/ so I know any immunity this protocol has today is a result of its small footprint. If there are any good threads on bot / troll resistance please point me at them. It strikes me that a creation of a pub/priv key access to relays could pay some sats first time as a disincentive to floods of bots. (bitcoins invention was related to an PoW antispam technology called hashcash, so the similarities and potential is tantalizing).
"decentralized"
They need some advisors from the DGB
18M users have signed up 🤙🏽 https://bsky.social/about/support/community-guidelines
Yeap, this will go downhill quite fast. Censorship all the way down all again.
I chose to be empowered on Nostr by making my own decisions on who and what subjects to mute, rather than expecting someone else to make that decision for me. I chose not to offload my decision making to a platform that is then put under pressure and scrutiny to become the thought police. I don’t believe that is fair to either them or myself as a user. While I may not agree with some topics on social media (or other media for that matter) I believe in everyone’s right to voice their own opinion. As I also believe in everyone’s right to peacefully protest. If parents don’t consider their children are capable of dealing with the many and varied issues discussed on social media platforms then I recommend they parent their children and stop expecting Governments and Tech platforms to do it for them (and I’m commenting as an Australian where there is a push by parents for the Government to restrict access for under 16 year olds). My only caveat would be related to CSAM and other types of Non consensual harm. This is something I do hope platforms and governments are working together to address. In the main though if we truly want freedom then we need to step up and take responsibility for our own actions and start by making our own decisions on what content we wish to see.
A platform overrun by morally bankrupt leftists who want to silence those they disagree with, coupled with the rapidly declining state of mental health. What could possibly go wrong.
decentralized moderation🤔
If moderation is still controlled by the platform, true freedom of speech can’t be achieved. On Yakihonne, users can filter inappropriate content, and the community can evaluate and rate notes using the verify notes feature. While enabling free publishing, we hand over moderation to the community.
I was talking to bitcoiner friend of mine and he asked me if I’d heard of bluesky, which I hadn’t until he mentioned it. Quick Google search and I realised it was BS immediately. It’s a shame that so many people need to be marketed to in order to see the value of something.
bsky seems all about who to block and how, people talk about it all the time
Private platforms and actors = moderation Public platforms and actors = censorship Private platforms have the right to moderate. Moderation will increase on nostr as well. It is just that nostr is the innovation to separate identity from a specific moderator.
Can't be a decentralized protocol if you have a moderation team
#Bostil em primeiro lugar! nostr:nevent1qqs8k94jqvtrs0q79qgmjydmz3wq2ctxfkcynzhmupsrfw8wm83uxrgpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43z7q3qtrr5r2nrpsk6xkjk5a7p6pfcryyt6yzsflwjmz6r7uj7lfkjxxtqxpqqqqqqzr6kn5v
ever read about the Twitter files? fool me once jack....
Moderation is censorship
