For real though, Amethyst looks awesome, but it's a bit overwhelming... I followed a bunch of people and some of their followers so far.
How do I find conversations or microcommunities built around specific interests, niches, etc.? Can I use relays, or hashtags, for this?
I like music (nearly all kinds), hiking, skiing, reading, bitcoin, martial arts, good movies and tv, yoga and meditation, craft beer and fine wine, economics, traveling, and art (especially traditional Japanese and Mongolian painting/calligraphy). And probably some other stuff, but this should do the trick for now.

Get a Lightning address so we can light you up!
I have a phoenix wallet but not seeing how to connect it... Looks like a lot of people use Alby but that's wait listed (and custodial). What do you guys recommend?
Phoenix is good for a basic Lightning wallet but it doesn’t give you a permanent address for receiving zaps.
Alby is in the process of going self-custodial so they’re not adding many new users at the moment.
Depending on where you live some options for you are:

Is it safe to put my private key into Mutiny to set up a wallet that is automatically connected to my nostr account?
(I lean pretty hard to the full nym, self custodial, kyc-free approach whenever possible)
Yes, the key is only stored locally on your phone.

I'm looking at the "freedom one" federation which looks recommended by tony, Odell, Ben, and a couple of other familiar faces so let's go with that...
It also looks like a lightning address is only available to paid users, which I'm definitely gonna do but I would imagine is friction for new nostr users... Or is there another way to send and receive zaps using Mutiny without the paid test flight configuration?

Gotcha. I just tried to send about 1M SATs from Phoenix tonmynnew mutiny acct via lightning but it hasn't reflected any change. Is it waiting for a channel confirmation? If so, it would be good to indicate that to the user waiting for his funds to arrive ;)
FYI – I’m trying to pay the Mutiny+ subscription fee but it can’t find a route.
Mutiny node connectivity issues? I feel like it's usually that when multiple users can't connect to a LSP sort of thing... Right?

There was a button/CTA to join a recommended fed, this was second in the list. What if you go to the settings sidebar and click federations?

Yes, it picks your profile (name, bio, picture, etc) and your relays setting.
Sweet - does Coracle "ask" Amethyst for these details? Or do my relays store the info?
Clients talk only with relays, so your data is pulled from relays. There are a couple of discovering mechanism that permit that automatically, if you don't find the same relays after the login you have to instruct the app to use yours entering them manually.

For mobile you can try Yana, less features but lighter.
For desktop, Gossip.
But I alert you that it's a little hardcore :)

We share some interests! I suggest following hashtags (possible in many clients, I think including amethyst) and posting about what you’re interested in, including relevant hashtags.
For example, I’d like to see some of your fav Mongolian art 😁
Follow tons of people.
Follow hashtags.
Comment on people's stuff.
The more you interact the more you get it off Nostr. Your vibe affects your tribe but also like you have to look for it if that makes sense?
