Okay, so I thought out a spin to my pseudo medieval feudal setting where the Church (more than one?) was replaced by Mage Guild due to gods becoming silent. But mages do have significantly different esthetic than clergy and it's hard for me to make it logically work. Mages don't seem like people willing to take over church work like charity or giving some spiritual comfort (or often discomfort).

Do I make the people organise their own little rituals or mages stop being aloof maniacs? 

 @c2acbfae I would expect a schism.  Some people are all for aloof-maniac wizards corrupting the church, while others continue worship of the actual gods behind closed doors lest the wizards notice.
