We are back at Proton being a no go.
No Proton Drive sync application for GNU/Linux makes Drive useless for me.
No notifications on Android without Google Play Services. Lame. Tuta works without it.
I gave it a go. It has gotten better since I started using it when it was new, but they still seem to be focused on creating new products without addressing some seemingly basic issues that you'd think would align with their alleged dedication to privacy and security (applications for GNU/Linux, Independent notifications on Android).
Overall, Tuta for email and calendar with Filen for cloud storage still seems to be a better fit for me.
I appreciate everyone's suggestions. Hopefully they make the services more complete before starting the next thing.

Have you considered just renting an unmetered vps, or running your own home server on some old hardware laying around that you can install freedombox to?
Install nextcloud using docker and mail server like roundcube. Maybe install a matrix server, or a Nostr relay too if you are feeling sassy. Call it a day.
