@☃️merry chrimist☃️ It’s just sad, reducing someone to a bio and a picture and nothing more. Of course you can meet someone on there and hit it off and have something genuine, but the presence of that reductive quality being a precursor to everything else seems like it would shut down any actual potential for love
@🌲Hidden🌲 intense competition always seems to result in zero actual communication. You see this with corpospeak, resumespeak, politicsspeak, and the dating app meta (cough fish pics cough). In all those cases, a single normal-person sentence would say more than a page of optimized gobbledygook, but somehow everyone feels obligated to write gobbledygook. I wonder why

Every time a couple has explained to me that they met on an app, they've seemed ashamed of it, but the shame is less these days
@☃️merry chrimist☃️ @🌲Hidden🌲 I feel like dating apps are lowkey filled with psychopaths. The concept already is really weird, it's like picking a friend out of a Sears catalogue.

I was at a wedding a few weeks ago and one of the couples there met on a dating app. The girl told me that she had an excel spreadsheet of every response that she got on Catholic Match, along with relevant data on each person.
@leechseed @🌲Hidden🌲 oh no, a spreadsheeter :blobweary: I know a guy like that, who has a spreadsheet on every girl he's ever dated. There's also this friend of a friend who makes spreadsheets for literally everything in her life, from job applications to which handbag to buy next week. Utter insanity

For the couple you met, did their love seem genuine?
@☃️merry chrimist☃️ @leechseed @🌲Hidden🌲 You seem to have something against fans of spreadsheets 🤨 That will cost you some points.

@🌲Hidden🌲 @Anthony “Maybe Mitch Connor” Bacon @66270c87 @leechseed it is literally true that “inner twisting” / “involution” (neijuan) is the greatest cultural threat to the chinese state rn: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neijuan

context: “neijuan” has come to mean something like “rat race” and there is an opposite word which translates to “lie flat or literally “drop out of the system.” Basically a neet movement that has hit the cultural mainstream
@☃️merry chrimist☃️ @Anthony “Maybe Mitch Connor” Bacon @66270c87 @leechseed Oh yeah i've heard of laying flat. I wonder how common it is. I know Japan makes a big deal of neets but they have one of the lowest neet counts in the world afaik
