From public or private?  

 No, anonymous. 

I am contemplating if private is ok, but I like the idea of not even the receiver knowing who the sender is.

 Yeah! Would you zap if no one was looking? If yes, then zap away  

 Why? 

 In most cases personal identity is not salient.  

 Agree for the receiver (doesn't really matter who sent it) however I feel like your social graph could benefit from seeing what content you zap.

I noticed that I am more likely to look into things if people from my WoT zapped it hard.

 I may or may not use anonymous zaps exclusively.

 this makes sense, i'm slightly uncomfortable with those stats being publicly visible 

 I care a lot about privacy (not so much anymore since I'm on Nostr 😉), 
BUT isn't it important to show the world about what you care (and who you are), so that your actions, you vision, your life contributes to making the world a place how you want to have it? A better place 🌞😃
