All the kids in this video have been surfing with us for most of their young lives. Some as long as 8 years. And I've known them since they were very little.
When they joined The Surfer Kids, they couldn't swim and wouldn't put their toes in the water. Now, to see them ripping like this, several years later, it's incredible!
Words cannot explain how proud I am. I'm proud of them, proud of their coaches, and proud of all of us, the entire team that got them here and helped build a program, and sustained it for over a decade.

Now might be a good time for the world to revisit the Truth and Reconciliation Comission in post-apartheid South Africa.
There's a reason why they did what they did.
I'm not saying it was a perfect solution, South Africa has plenty problems today.
But the motivating principle was sound.
If you truly want the violence, death and destruction to stop, you have to find a way to look past the many reasons you may have to continue.
It's a question of what you want, not of what you feel legitimately justified to do in response.
Not a fan of her in particular. In fact, if it was up to ther, I'd imagine the Truth and Reconciliation Comission wouldn't have happened. Instead there would have been retribution.
There's a chance we end up in WW3 because no one was willing to take the first step in de-escalation, despite having ample and sound justification for escalation.
An attempt to make government more efficient by establishing yet another governmental department sounds like shitcoinery to me. Who knows, perhaps they pull it off, but I'd be surprised if it changes anything in a meaningful way.
I'm 24 hours into fasting. Not the first time I'm doing it, but the first time in a while. Gonna go for 36 hours, until tomorrow morning.
I'm about to go sleep, after not eating since last night. Going to bed without dinner, that's the hardest part for me.
But I know that tomorrow morning it'll feel great and I'll be grateful that I didn't give in to the eating temptation.
I've been to several conferences that are explicitly Bitcoin-only.
I've been to conferences that are specifically Bitcoin focused but which featured conversations around things like stable coins.
And I've been the Bitcoin conferences where organizers pragmatically accepted that shitcoins pay good money for advertising.
But I've never been to a conference where the focus is specifically not on Bitcoin, but on crypto, web3 and blah, blah, blah..
Tomorrow will be a first.
I'm talking on a panel titled: Bitcoin Payments in Africa.
Hopefully it tickles some curiosity.
I didn't realize how early we are here. As I understand it, Nostr is only 4 years old, and development has only really been happening, in earnest, for about two years. In Bitcoin terms, we're in like 2011 to 2013.
And maybe it's just me, but using Nostr today, it already feels better, in terms of accessibility for a relatively non-technical person, compared to Bitcoin in 2013.

The crew arrived in Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa's crown jewel of surfing.
They're there to compete in the South African Junior Surfing Championships, the most prestigious junior event on the calendar.
Two of our kids qualified for this year's event. Many years of hard work is about to be put on display.
And many people will ask about the orange Land Cruiser and Bitcoin.

I don't like making future predictions, but I can see this little dude accomplishing big things in surfing.
If 10-year-old Avethandwa surfs like this, on his first try at a local reef break, I see a future national champion and maybe even an international one.
He's already won a silver medal in the u10 division at the recent regional champs in March 2024, which is the highest level of competition at that age.
National champs start with the u12 division. Watch out for Avethandwa at the South African Junior Championship event in 2026.
