 Past Me is disappointing.
@c53d74b8 Same. I hear people say they have no regrets and I think, they are either a liar or a saint.
#Tahoma (Mount Rainier) and tarn from Spray Park for #ThrowbackThursday, 2005. This is actually a film shot I had scanned right before moving on to a DSLR. #Hiking #GetOutside

Giant mossy Sitka spruce for #ThickTrunkTuesday, not the record spruce but close in terms of volume. Sams Loop Trail, Queets River, Olympic National Park. #Hiking #GetOutside

There are a few notable exceptions, but in general I’m not a fan of humans.
@c53d74b8 yes in general people suck 😅

@c531994e Not that bad, I found it easier to go down than up, which is a serious leg-burning grunt. You want good weather though either way.
@c531994e the larches are about two weeks from peak color, they're starting here though. Glad you got up there. Now do the other side, camp at Colchuck and day hike up Aasgard Pass to the upper basin. Then you'll have the full Enchantments experience. Or do the day-hike through, in at the Stuart/Colchuck trailhead, out the Snow Lake trailhead. 🙂

@c531994e Sounds like the injured climber was closer to the Snow Lake Trailhead, there’s a wall that’s popular among rock climbers a couple miles in. I suspect it was there.
Actually have a legit #Caturday photo. This is another frame of the bobcat we saw yesterday. #Hiking #GetOutside

@cf593c09 do you have cross pollination issues at all? I grow a bean that made its way to Italy and then back to the West Coast called Monochine. Was told not to grow other beans nearby if I wanted to replant over the years because it would get cross pollinated and change.
Spotted a bobcat on our morning hike, hunting along the bay shore, pretty far off but watched it for about 10 minutes, pure joy! Curiously, minutes before spotting it I had wondered aloud how many times we had walked by a bob without seeing it. Third time we've see 'em here. #Hiking #Wildlife #GetOutside

Maybe the finest bell pepper I’ve grown. Always a challenge to grow peppers here in the maritime NW, at least for me. Plus another large Pineapple tomato, huge crop of these dandies, the first year I’ve grown ‘em. #Gardening #GrowYourOwn

@c531994e this kind of story is really subjective nonsense, that’s OK I guess but take it for what it’s worth. Really the world at large should not know about Bellingham, Port Angeles or Chelan. I’m OK with that.

@c531994e from the far end of Snow Lake I want to say it’s 3-4 miles to the lower basin with a gain of 3000-3500 feet. If you had two nights at Snow would be best. You could hike in and camp, in the morning hike into the basin, then come back and crash and hike out third day.
 nostr:npub1cqhmpg3rv38atgp9vy5j7kevdsepjwf3gr4c8576szzypn25sjeqv24rf7 😭 Alright, I have to see...
@c531994e no, they’re all good. But if you want to camp in the actual Enchantment Lakes Basin, you need a core zone permit. You could camp at Snow and day hike into the basin though.
I just snagged an overnight permit for the Enchantments “Snow Zone.” Is that good?

#Hiking #...
@c531994e that’s the Snow Lake Zone. Don’t think you can go into the actual Enchantments Basin with that. Only to Snow and Nada Lakes. Those outer zones are fairly easy to get.
Chipotle this time, now up to 29 pints of salsa on the season. Will do one more batch, then can some spaghetti/marinara sauce, then just tomatoes. I’ve not purchased store-bought salsa in probably 25 years, except salsa fresca once or twice. #Gardening #GrowYourOwn

@c531994e I looked for my Green Trails maps of the area -- they have all the points on 'em -- but they're history. Another hike I did years ago started at Suiattle River trailhead, up the river, then the grunt up to Miner's Ridge and Image Lake, on to Suiattle Pass and down the PCT to Stehekin. That was a great trip.
Hiked around Magnuson Park on Lake Washington for a change of pace, then hit Magnuson Brewing Cafe for lunch. Favorite part of the park is the Fins sculpture by artist John T. Young. They’re actually diving fins from decommissioned submarines, said to represent orca fins. The park is the former site of Naval Air Station Sand Point in Seattle, most active during WWII. @c531994e You, my friend, have a serious sweet tooth. I do not. However, I made raspberry muffins this morning that look seriously decadent. For later, dessert.

@7320f548 @c531994e Daughter got beaver fever, drank water from an unfiltered well on the north Olympic Peninsula, in an area known for giardia. Had to take two types of antibiotics to cure it, the first didn't work. She was three or four, lost weight over a couple month period. Andrew, do you filter your drinking water when hiking?

@c531994e You must have gone by Suiattle Pass when you left Cloudy Pass for Miner's Ridge. They're close. The PCT northbound departs Suiattle Pass and drops down to the Stehekin River. On your Lyman Lake pic, upper right is Lyman Glacier, above it out of the pic is Spider Gap. Probably in the '90s best friend and I hiked from over the gap and down Lyman Glacier to Lyman Lake. We descended from there to the villages of Holden and Lucerne on Lake Chelan. Anyway, nice pics, happy to help!
