@c531994e the larches are about two weeks from peak color, they're starting here though. Glad you got up there. Now do the other side, camp at Colchuck and day hike up Aasgard Pass to the upper basin. Then you'll have the full Enchantments experience. Or do the day-hike through, in at the Stuart/Colchuck trailhead, out the Snow Lake trailhead. 🙂
@c531994e Sounds like the injured climber was closer to the Snow Lake Trailhead, there’s a wall that’s popular among rock climbers a couple miles in. I suspect it was there.
@cf593c09 do you have cross pollination issues at all? I grow a bean that made its way to Italy and then back to the West Coast called Monochine. Was told not to grow other beans nearby if I wanted to replant over the years because it would get cross pollinated and change.
@c531994e this kind of story is really subjective nonsense, that’s OK I guess but take it for what it’s worth. Really the world at large should not know about Bellingham, Port Angeles or Chelan. I’m OK with that.
@c531994e from the far end of Snow Lake I want to say it’s 3-4 miles to the lower basin with a gain of 3000-3500 feet. If you had two nights at Snow would be best. You could hike in and camp, in the morning hike into the basin, then come back and crash and hike out third day.
@c531994e no, they’re all good. But if you want to camp in the actual Enchantment Lakes Basin, you need a core zone permit. You could camp at Snow and day hike into the basin though.
@c531994e that’s the Snow Lake Zone. Don’t think you can go into the actual Enchantments Basin with that. Only to Snow and Nada Lakes. Those outer zones are fairly easy to get.
@c531994e I looked for my Green Trails maps of the area -- they have all the points on 'em -- but they're history. Another hike I did years ago started at Suiattle River trailhead, up the river, then the grunt up to Miner's Ridge and Image Lake, on to Suiattle Pass and down the PCT to Stehekin. That was a great trip.
@c531994e You, my friend, have a serious sweet tooth. I do not. However, I made raspberry muffins this morning that look seriously decadent. For later, dessert.
@7320f548@c531994e Daughter got beaver fever, drank water from an unfiltered well on the north Olympic Peninsula, in an area known for giardia. Had to take two types of antibiotics to cure it, the first didn't work. She was three or four, lost weight over a couple month period. Andrew, do you filter your drinking water when hiking?
@c531994e You must have gone by Suiattle Pass when you left Cloudy Pass for Miner's Ridge. They're close. The PCT northbound departs Suiattle Pass and drops down to the Stehekin River. On your Lyman Lake pic, upper right is Lyman Glacier, above it out of the pic is Spider Gap. Probably in the '90s best friend and I hiked from over the gap and down Lyman Glacier to Lyman Lake. We descended from there to the villages of Holden and Lucerne on Lake Chelan. Anyway, nice pics, happy to help!
