Ghost of Yotei looks amazing and I am very excited given how awesome Ghost of Tsushima was

1. Open the camera app, lightly press the Camera Control to bring up the menu
2. Lightly press the Camera Control twice and navigate to the “Cameras” menu
3. Swipe all the way to the left and you’ll see a new selfie option https://media3.giphy.com/media/8v6Z3YyULB5Q0Skbac/200.gif
The decay of the YouTube reviews of phones continue. There are infinite more unboxing and life in the day videos. But in-depth testing and providing what defines the phone / not has gone missing.

I miss the days Anandtech will give detailed reports on the cyclone core #sigh
After observing the camera control for a couple days, it feels like 3D touch to me. It's going to be beloved by some people. However the button is too finicky for a regular person... Unless it can do something "fun" or frequent.

Visual intelligence could be it. But, until then, 3D touch.

guess mclaren wasn't bending backwards to comply and fia is too stiff to let this slide. so, now red bull can go back to flexing its wings.
https://spectrum.ieee.org/5g-antenna-transparent-window this is such a neat idea. however, in the market of ideas, why would someone fit this versus a hard wired line and ethernet?
So many fond memories of playing Splinter Cell.

I have tremendous respect for LMNT and god bless him for him for not being affected by the RCS divide. I’m not a fan of Google‘s messaging efforts despite being a Googler. But nothing explains away Apple’s feet dragging.

Glad this is now here. Onwards.

this was an interesting listen. the thesis that people need to find humanity in each other before one can attempt to bridge additional divides is not just important, but used to be an american strength.

it's very interesting to see the lingo with the current creators. for example, "workflow" totally took me by surprise. workflow is a remnant from the broadcasting industry, adopted into the OTT industry and now into the YT creator lingo.

I am still surprised android doesn't have an equivalent of iOS Shortcuts from Apple.

 https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/14/24244540/apple-confirms-iphone-16-pro-max-8gb-ram-apple-intelligence

I worry that apple's painting itself into a corner for on-device models with such a low amount of RAM for even the Pro phones. For comparison, competition is on the 16GB mark.
Personally, I will be thrilled if a chromium based browser is ported on to iOS and ipad OS. People can really test how they compare to Safari, even to just push the Safari team more.

I like Safari and I personally think its quality of extensions are indeed high, but time for some competition imho.
2nd post today that is questioning Safari and how great it is. The first one was more correcting an oft misunderstood battery life comparison of Chrome

interesting results. for understanding some additional battery impact, curious how the browsers accommodate "low power mode"
 https://cdibona.substack.com/p/my-eulogy-for-the-open-web-and-old

I don't see Google fighting for the open web either. And I do think that this will put Google chasing incremental revenue. That need not be the end of the company, but the place I joined to move the web forward is done.
It’s official. Even the mighty #apple cannot make a good how can LLMs help you ad.

Genuinely surprised by how Google totally skipped Qi 2 support for the pixels this year as well. They were ahead on WiFi 7 support but now a year+ behind Qi 2 support.
Hehe this super cut of "camera controls" from @captain2phones@threads.net is hilarious

@openvibe.bsky.social is becoming my favorite app

Timeline aggregation, xposting and now support for system fonts. Only thing left is moving away from safari web view to the built in browser and disabling auto play.
The surest sign that Google's not thinking about the web anymore is the total lack of effort from Google related to APub and AT proto.

OTOH, this might be the best sign that these protocols may actually have a chance to survive. 😅
Also is this the first year than iOS will be released ahead of the Android update?
Looks like the new iPhone Pro and the Pixel 9 pro are the exact same weight. And I wanna say that I think the pixel 9 pro feels just a bit heavier than I’d like.

#iphone #pixel
Apple doing 4k@120fps with per frame color grading on phone while pixel can barely keep up with 4k@60fps without overheating. #sigh
@pocketcasts have sent a new mail that's got me concerned. Such name changes could be moot but also could be the legal requirements to end a specific program. This is a banger of a start reviewing the pixel 9 pro cameras (using the xl) by @beccafarsace.bsky.social
I miss the days of text reviews of phones. I’ll see if I can write one about the pixel 9 pro when I get it.
A YouTube “reviewer” loses credibility when they don’t differentiate between Pixel 9 Pro and XL when they review. And that’s now 27/30 in this playlist i built.
I just transferred an eSIM from one phone to another while roaming abroad. Good Lord, I didn’t expect this to work so seamlessly. ❤️

Traveling across Europe and I must say, Barcelona’s been my favorite city so far. <3
Has anyone been successful at transferring photos from google photos to iCloud Photos yet? I just don’t have the option to transfer it to iCloud Photos at this time.

 https://www.axios.com/2024/08/23/kamala-harris-unrealized-capital-gains-tax

While overall, it’s the right summary, I would add that concerns from the Valley are totally overblown.
Honestly, the policy released by the Harris campaign is not impressive. I am mutually aligned on the outcomes here: bridge wealth inequality and help those in need weather the storm of inflation

But the actual policy proposals seem shallow and likely end up having reverse effects.

The web _could_ have been a “platform” that could have survived. People think that the web became defunct now? It became defunct when iOS purposefully chose to downgrade the web app platform in favor of the native apps to protect their 30% cuts. As much as Android didn’t degrade the web given the pressure internally from chrome, even they were not trying to fundamentally change that because more native apps means more gatekeeping control.

Just like how we should all support the federated and decentralized social media today instead of only threads / twitter. Everyone that wrote diatribes about how web apps suck (because iOS never let it flourish) should also take a look if they were championing the death of the web at some point.

iPhone's rise in JP is fascinating. JP, CA and US are the three countries where iOS has a greater share than Android. Interestingly JP is also one of Pixel's largest markets. The continued rise in APAC further cements that they are making some strong progress in gaining share from Android.

google’s ads usually have the feels down. dear sophie still hits me to this day.

something about asking an LLM with so much descriptive text makes the payoff… totally not worth it. esp when you realize the narration took far more effort. this ain’t it, chief.
It's night and day. It's uncensored.
i guess i don’t have a lot of queries that require uncensored work. but will keep an eye when it can be helpful!
 venice.ai
i’ve almost never found it better than the other LLM bots / LLM search engines. also their UX is exactly like everyone else.
 https://www.platformer.news/meta-llama-3-zuckerberg-open-source-ai/?ref=platformer-newsletter

This is a pretty big deal. It suggests that model development itself isn’t a big deal and that LLMs hit a local maximum. Model development needs something novel to cross this plateau.

brings together mastodon, bluesky and nostr and soon threads. i still remember the energy around adium and omnigrowl. this has similar energy and also runs on Mx series of macs and is free.
