Biden-Harris Commit Record $17 Billion to HBCUs
==========
The Biden-Harris administration announced an additional $1.3 billion in federal investments for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) on September 19, 2024, bringing the total investment to $17 billion since Fiscal Year 2021. HBCUs, representing only 3% of U.S. colleges, enroll twice as many Pell Grant-eligible students and produce significant percentages of Black professionals: 40% of engineers, 50% of teachers, 70% of doctors and dentists, and 80% of judges. The new funding includes $188 million for R&D capacity building and $1.1 billion for student support. Initiatives include a $90 million program at Howard University for autonomous technologies, funding for high-speed internet at 43 HBCUs, a $7.75 million clean energy education prize, and $262.5 million for agricultural leadership training. Forbes ranked Howard University as the top HBCU, highlighting their impact on economic mobility and lower student debt.
