@425a31b8 a bunch of vergey dweebs threw tomatoes at me for saying it a week after launch, but it’s so clear that threads completely biffed it. musk gave them a golden opportunity but they really needed to replicate the twitter experience 1:1 to retain any significant share of those immediate 10m users. instead zuck said they’re anti-journalist and just want to be a “positive vibes” space…which may have worked in like 2014, but man, who but rich tech bros lives in that world anymore?
@40cd5708@dcb8bf28 as someone who’s worked with a lot of famous people, my recommendation would be to not idolize any of them. what you see is not them
but what “taking a stand and speaking out” does she do, really? in 2016 the photo of her at a voting booth was seen as controversial (!) despite her refusing to tell anyone about that vote. even in a choice between the first female president and the first fox news nazi president she didn’t want to risk a cent to throw her weight around
@a1aa26bb this post just got boosted back to the top of my feed a third time and i’m just now noticing – why are the women not even wearing socks while the men are in dress shoes? ugh
@40cd5708 i hate be a raincloud but it says everything that you’re this excited over an utterly apolitical and run-of-the-mill voter registration reminder. and it’s not at all the same thing as, say, ice spice encouraging her fans to vote – taylor’s fandom covers the entire american spectrum, and a lot of those kids and adults come from extremely bigoted red state upbringings. the assumption that these new voters will comprise a meaningful net positive “against facism” is wishful thinking at best
