@7c51d3ef @2f08c44f I mean it should still be a nice upgrade from the P6P to the P8P be it the new AI capabilities, cameras or the upgrade to the ARMv9 microarchitecture.

For me, I'm not a super power user chasing the latest phone. As much as the 8 Series is tempting, since I'm in no rush to replace & there's no good incentives to get me upgrading early, I rather wait for a wider gap before the next upgrade.
Originally promised to only run during peak demand, some Ontario gas electricity plants, including the Portlands Plant in the heart of Toronto is running far more frequently than initially promised, up to 21 hours a day, making Ontario's "clean energy grid" far dirtier.

How Toronto lost its wild 100 year war with raccoons - a great read from the Toronto Star regarding Toronto's history with raccoons.

I did not know they used to be considered pets before 1930s.

@2f08c44f @7c51d3ef ya looks like Google is shortchanging us here in Canada which is too bad. If they had better trade-in offers, it might have convinced me to upgrade early.

As it stands, my P6 is still working well, I'd rather just hold on for a little longer, see what kind of upgrade the Pixel 9 or even 10 would be before upgrading, likely gonna wait for when those go on sale before buying as well if they do sales as often as they do with the P7 series.

@7c51d3ef wished they had a better trade in value here in Canada. Unfortunately the base Pixel 6 I have is only worth C$180 & the base Pixel 6 Pro is only worth C$255. This barely reduces the C$949 for the base Pixel 8 & the C$1349 for the base Pixel 8 Pro...

If the trade-in values up here in Canada were as strong as it is in the States, it probably would convince me to upgrade earlier than planned...
Not a fan that Google decided to hike the price of the #Pixel8 series but wow, 7 years of OS, security & feature drop updates! Turns out the rumours were true, hope this pushes other manufacturers to follow suit.

I'm likely gonna keep my #Pixel6 for another year or 2 but man, this year's Pixel is quite tempting even with the price hike.

@07b41b47 ya, I should have added the cnrail tag, forgot to do that.

At least it seems like CN is trying to communicate as much as possible regarding this incident. Hopefully they'll resolve it soon. Today's rush hour traffic is gonna suck, not that it doesn't suck before, but even more so now lol...
The GO Trains have stopped running due to issues with the CN signal system failures.

There's currently no time estimates for when train service will resume.

Appears that the cause of today's CN outage affecting GO Train & Via Rail service is due to the inability to connect to CN's servers due to internet connectivity issues.

The company stated that they're still investigating the issue, but there's no indications that this was caused by a cyber incident at this time.

An improvised explosive device caused a car explosion overnight in Barrie, ON. Police found a 2nd IED nearby and had to evacuate apartment buildings nearby during the investigation.

Police also conducted a controlled explosion of the 2nd device at the scene.

There's now an XBOX MasterCard? I guess that's another way to earn revenue. Wonder if Sony would follow suit & launch a PlayStation Visa or something like that lol.

Subscriptions for hardware features in cars was a dumb idea in the first place. Glad that BMW realized that it wouldn't go over well for people.

The fact that #ElonMusk can make decisions that affect the Russo-Ukrainian war is mind-boggling.

Allowing the use of Starlink for the attack, he concluded, could be a disaster for the world. So he secretly told his engineers to turn off coverage within 100 kilometers of the Crimean coast. As a result, when the Ukrainian drone subs got near the Russian fleet in Sevastopol, they lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly.

Wow, just wow, this guy is dangerous: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/09/07/elon-musk-starlink-ukraine-russia-invasion/

Auto theft has been rising in Canada in the past couple years. It's been considered a very low risk, very high reward crime as criminals are rarely caught & port inspections are not catching up. These vehicles are stolen in seconds & shipped out of Canada in days.

Problem has gotten so bad that it is now the #3 funder of organized crime in Canada.
