Just sitting here realizing that all the pay/login gates on articles are the single greatest force for archiving the web right now (since that's the best way to side-step them), heh
Good job, capitalists, you're accidentally helping!
I think the general advice I can offer recent Unreal layoff folks is that, your severance looked a lot like what they gave us at LEGO, and:
1.) You'll probs never see that in your career again
2.) It's the best runway to (indie / your own business / etc) you'll ever be handed, so use it if you can
Doesn't mean you gotta jump indie, that's risky, just- ANY business idea you've had. Any big life-changing thing that requires some runway. You're probably never going to be handed a better opportunity to execute on it, so think really hard about if now's the time, and maybe go for it.
@de22920b did you know that many birds are opportunistic fruit-a-vores? I had no idea! I thought it was mostly just robins. It's a fun thing to look up.
Also, hummingbirds eat insects for protein and primarily survive off that and similar during winter. Not just nectar. Cool!
(I'm helping!)
If anyone was considering Kagi (premium search engine) but was put off the limits on number of searches, they dropped that entirely for most- the $10 tier is now just unlimited searches.
$10/mo for "a Google that actually works" is very worth it to me, though your mileage may vary.
Being a programmer is like having a puppy who isn't potty trained yet, so you spend half your day walking around cleaning up messes and sighing loudly
except you are also the puppy
