@7881acb5 I don’t know much about them, but thinking back over my unpublished photos, I believe I’ve seen them before. All About Birds says their conservation status is Low Concern, but I’m not sure if it’s because of numbers or limited habitat or both. They’re in the Bay Area year-round, and their range is rather small (CA with a small dip into Mexico).

@748f4f74 New feathers are definitely more colorful and shiny.
The adult birds here do a big molt at the end of Summer, the end of breeding and nesting season. By then, their feathers are usually faded, sun-damaged, or are in poor condition. They're joined by the Summer's fledglings that are growing their first sets of adult feathers.
The crows and jays started a little earlier. In a couple of weeks, some of the earlier pigeon molts should be complete with later ones finishing just in time for Winter.
@cefab43e In case it’s helpful for anyone, Kaiser in SF is offering the updated Pfizer vaccine at their vaccine clinic on Geary. Walk-in only for now. Flu shots are also available.
I changed this to reuse colors across the light and dark themes, which brings helps preserve the intent of the original palettes and harmonizes the colors across modes.
It works for most birds and noted birds (known individual birds) along with some logic specifically for birds with default dark backgrounds.
From left to right:
- Light + Contrast
- Light
- Default
- Default Alternate (because why not?)
- Dark
- Dark + Contrast
CSS refactor soon; need more granularity in custom properties.
