#30DayMapChallenge 🗺️ Day 1️⃣: Points
I had fun doing last year’s challenge so here we go again!
For Day 1, I wanted to replicate the style from last year first day,¹ so here’s a map with the 4271 *points* of the #Philippines 🇵🇭, aka capes, promontories, or headlands, as recorded by #Wikidata.
This data actually originally came from the U.S. GEOnet Names Server, then infamously imported as bot-created Cebuano #Wikipedia articles, then became Wikidata items.

I'm kinda bemused about the ongoing #WordPress / #Automattic drama. I have never used WP (all the blogs I have ever created either used the #Textpattern CMS, was hosted on Google's Blogger, used my own #Perl-coded CMS, or were hand-coded HTML), so I just follow the news without having had my toes in the WP ecosystem. I therefore have little to no skin in the game.
I’m planning to create my first @11768977 site soon and I’m already wondering which template language to use. Given that #Eleventy supports several formats, there’s a minor #ParadoxOfChoice at play here. I’ll probably just go with #Nunjucks for its flexibility.

Does anybody know when the categories for the #30DayMapChallenge will come out? I want to participate again this year and I want to start planning (but not creating) ahead of time so I can better manage my time. 😬

I’m currently listening to the whole #Yanni Live at the Acropolis concert from 1993. I remember watching this in the 1990s and instantly loving the contemporary instrumental music.

I don’t know. The Heroes of the Horn looked really cheesy. Well, they’re epic in the books, but I really can’t see how you can depict them on screen in an epic way too.
Ah, so that’s how Rand gets his wound.
Egwene holding her own against Ishamael’s attacks just wasn’t realistic.
Moiraine weaving fantastic weaves in the sea: didn’t care for that at all.
Rand killing (?) Ishamael in that manner: didn’t care for that too. Moiraine couldn’t kill Lanfear but Rand could?
That dragon that Moiraine wove. Meh. Then again, you really can’t depict the epic fight in the clouds at the end of Book 2 in any satisfying way.
That epilogue with Moghedien and Lanfear was very satisfying though and sets us up very nicely into future seasons. Also, Lanfear’s intentions are now very ambiguous. Will she be playing both sides?
OK. So many things happened in the last half of the episode.
Yup, Hopper did get killed, setting up future Perrin arcs.
Didn’t care for Perrin *actually* killing Geofram, but I guess that doesn’t really change a lot if we’re not getting Byar. But I wonder if we get the LCC Galad arc.
Uno becoming bound to the Horn was weird.
We get our first look at Birgitte Silverbow! But is that the permanent actor playing her? (The X-Ray cast list doesn’t say so.)

That Renna–Egwene scene was satisfying and frustrating at the same time. 😅 So the show has established that sul’dam are just very weak in the Power instead of lacking the “spark” as they are in the books. I guess we’re not getting the micro-arc later in the books where some sul’dam get trained to channel?

Lanfear meeting with Bayle Domon. Huh? And how are you going to transport six huge ass pieces of cuendillar to a boat?
Also, ruby-hilted dagger + quarterstaff = ashandarei? I guess we’re really not getting the snakes and foxes, huh?
Hmmm. The dagger getting more mystical properties this season when it didn’t kill Loial last season is a fail in storytelling logic. S1E8 had so many mistakes. *smh*

Ummm. Like with S1E8’s battle at Fal Dara, the battle at Falme is looking to be very underwhelming so far. Might we get book Ingtar’s redemption arc or not since there was very little hint of it in the season.
Also, I did not like Rand killing Turak with the One Power just like that. So anti-climactic. Book fans will be really disappointed because the sword fight between Turak and Rand is one of the fan-favorite scenes.

D’oh! The mist is just a Whitecloak battle tactic! Why did I assume that there was a supernatural element to it? 😅
Also Nynaeve is rocking it as a pretend-sul’dam! I want to see Seta and Renna’s comeuppance soon!
Not Renna cutting Egwene’s braid?! 😱
OK. So we already know that the ruby-hilted dagger is not what it is in the books. And Min’s vision of Mat and Rand might still come to fruition, but will we get the un-Healable wound(s) from the books this episode? 🤔
Nynaeve torturing Seta is so good, but I think non-book readers will be confused. The books had tons of pages to expound on how the a’dam work as the characters are studying it but the show is trying to cram everything into the precious few screen minutes.
Lanfear and Ishamael... so much to unpack here. Will Ishamael really die? In the books it took Rand three tries and in the cold open Lews says Ishamael wants to die the final death. Will we get Fares Fares in later seasons or will we get a new actor for Moridin?
Also the ominous shots of the remaining 6 seals. Will the other Forsaken finally be released this episode?

So we got another glimpse of Machin Shin in the Ways. But no Traveling? Boo!
We see Perrin with the Aiel wonder girls again. And now we’ve seen that mysterious mist again. (Cue Stephen King’s The Mist.) Also, will Hopper really stay or will he jump in the upcoming fray and get slain, like in the books?

Whitecloaks in Falme, setting a potential future book conflict between Perrin and Dain when Geofram inevitably vailantly dies. I wonder what Valda will do...
Natasha O’Keefe as Lanfear is such a delight to watch and her flexing her mastery of weaves to Moiraine is bad ass! But where did she put the Aes Sedai and Lan? Also, “raise the banner”? Might we see the Dragon Banner, finally? 🥺

Wait... After 7 episodes of getting a bare title card, we *now* get the gorgeous full intro?! I understand cutting these for the previous episodes to eke out some more screen time, but I guess now it’s as good as any for properly introducing the cast and crew.
But I’m a bit sad that this intro is the same. The genius of the Game of Thrones’s intros are how they differ from season to season and episode to episode depending on what happens.

Ok. I’ll try to do something that I’ve never done before here on the Fediverse... do a semi-live reaction thread of watching the Season 2 finale of #TheWheelOfTime.
So similar to S1E7’s and S2E7’s cold opens showing events from 20 years ago, we also get finale cold opens from 3000 years ago.
I can’t get enough of Alexander Karim as Lews Therin and we see him with 7 other companions sealing Ishamael at the Eye. Also, Sammael is namedropped!

Going into the Season 2 finale in a few hours, I have this fear that Turak's "room or curiosities" will double as the Stone of Tear's vault of One Power objects from Book 3. Might we see either a twisted redstone doorframe or Callandor in that room? 🤔

This is hilarious! The lackluster #SFGiants season is partially blamed on #Pusoy, a Filipino card game similar to Poker. (Other news reports are saying the culprit is Pusoy Dos, which is a completely different game.) ♠️♥️♣️♦️
“...a near-zealotry to Pusoy, a Filipino card game that Joc Pederson and some other Giants players appear to find more compelling than studying the night’s opposing starting pitcher.”

Oh good! Because the WGA writers won after striking against the AMPTP, John Oliver is now back to dishing out his weekly plates of dysfunction in society! 👍

I finally got an answer to a question I've had for quite some time: what the heck are these worm-like creatures with a weird shell that I see everywhere around the house?
I got a macro photo of one of them, uploaded it to #iNaturalist, and got the genus #Phereoeca, a type of moth, as the suggested taxon. Reading the description of the larvae of this genus, I'm convinced that this is the right answer.

Not the best, but epic for me:
"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning."
Oof. Just learned about the Yaroslav Hunka incident in the Canadian parliament and it's turning out to be a messy affair involving Canadian politics, Ukrainian nationalism, Holocaust denialism, Russian propaganda vis-a-vis the Russo-Ukrainian War, and Polish nationalism. 🤢
Whew! S2E7 was a lot to unpack.
My prediction is that we won’t be getting the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn in the TV show and their pair of twisted redstone doorframe ter’angreals. Let’s face it, those creatures and their world will be very hard to film and put on the screen.
This also means that a very pivotal event in Book 5, The Fires of Heaven, won’t happen, especially if it would mean Rosamund Pike would be missing for most of the TV series.
This pianist is amazing! She basically did her own rendition of the famous meme song “Rush E” and then did a jazzy interpretation as well. 🎹
