@Ryu I'm still leaning into a second theory that they wanted to expand Unity's telemetry and make it more invasive, and intentionally leaned into this stupid revenue plan to start a garbage fire so big it would overshadow the telemetry itself.
Then when they "apologize" and roll back the payment plan, the telemetry that would have enabled it stays in and everybody's too busy high-fiving each other to pay attention or care.
But I may be overthinking this.
@DarkMahesvara I hear some say that this was done specifically to drive smaller indies off Unity.
Also, I understand John Riccitiello (of EA fame) dumped 2000 shares of Unity's stock just before making this announcement. Now that they're worth a fraction of what he made on them, he's in a good position to buy them all back or more, for pennies on the dollar.
@:back_from_gab: :musashi_berseker: :abigail_willia... I could understand charging per install of Unity tool or devkit on dev machines, bit charging per install of game by everyone, everywhere is such an uncontrollable risk factor I can't see anybody willing to take it. Literally any non-Unity engine is now infinitely preferable. This is financial suicide.
Why would Unity charge a dev for every time a third party installs/uninstalls their Unity game, though? Thay doesn't even make corpo-greed sense, that's just pointless. By that metric, you'd actually not want to be successful at all. You're financially better off not releasing a Unity game at all.
The DarkRadiant build stream idea is already paying dividends. Since I don't want to do map work that would take material away from stream day, I'm forced to spend my small handfuls of free time doing other scripting work.
I've already figured out how to properly implement video briefings, made a custom video briefing, a diagetic map of the target building for in-game use, and tweaked custom menus. If we can actually wrap up the bulk of the map work this Saturday, I could have a finished fan mission ready for testing inside of the month.
In just under 90 minutes, we head back into the Zone to go head to head with Monolith forces on their own turf

@Token At a cursory reading, basically "author's life plus 70 years" is the rule. The only positive is that the State has no grounds to prosecute if the rightsholder chooses not to go after an infringer. That gray zone is the one in which all doujinshi live.
Light Novel Idea: "I Died In Battle In A Fantasy World and was Reincarnated as a Japanese High Schooler with No Memory of My Previous Life, but My Immortal Demon Lover Traveled Across Dimensions To Find Me Again In My New Form And Now She's My Yandere Stalker"
My plans to stream from the event floor were foiled by the most predictable of issues...network is so shit, it drops the strsam every handful of seconds. "PeerTube Live" app doesn't support persistent livestreams, so its basically impossible under these conditions.
@merchantHelios Browser. Still ongoing as well. Just seeing this message now... if this shit isn't caught up properly sometime today, I'll have to assume its permafucked somehow.
@DarkMahesvara I think I have one, with an artifact in it, somewhere in one of the storage boxes. I just never have armor with an artifact slot on it. Not yet, anyway.
@silverpill I'll check when I'm home. I think I'm slowly getting caught up to it, though... only 4 hours behind now. I think Pawoo gummed up my queue with a metric fuckton of Deletes.
