Stoic Word of the Day: Apatheia
Meaning: Apatheia is the state of being free from irrational or excessive emotions, often translated as “tranquility.” For the Stoics, it wasn’t about feeling nothing, but rather maintaining a rational perspective, free from destructive passions and emotional extremes.
Modern Example:
Imagine you’ve worked hard on a project, but it receives harsh criticism. Practicing apatheia means not reacting with defensiveness or despair but calmly accepting the feedback, evaluating it rationally, and using it to improve. Instead of being overwhelmed by disappointment or anger, you focus on maintaining inner stability.
Today, apatheia can be seen as emotional resilience—choosing not to be swayed by temporary feelings or external events, but responding with clarity and reason. It’s a commitment to inner peace, no matter the circumstances.
Stoic Word of the Day:
Amor Fati
Meaning: “Love of fate.” Amor Fati is the Stoic practice of embracing all aspects of life, even challenges and hardships, as necessary parts of one’s journey. Rather than merely accepting things that happen, it’s about loving them and seeing them as essential for growth.
Example:
Let’s say you lose your job unexpectedly. Instead of seeing this solely as a setback, practicing amor fati would mean looking at it as an opportunity—a chance to reassess your goals, learn new skills, or pursue a path you hadn’t considered before. Instead of wishing things were different, you choose to find purpose and even gratitude in what has happened.
In a modern sense, amor fati is about reframing adversity into something meaningful, helping us grow stronger and more resilient. It reminds us to embrace life fully, rather than resisting or resenting its ups and downs.
Ataraxia refers to a state of serene calmness and emotional stability, free from distress and anxiety. In Stoic philosophy, achieving ataraxia is essential for maintaining a balanced life and a clear mind, allowing individuals to focus on what truly matters and remain unaffected by external circumstances. https://image.nostr.build/71e7eb05d0797532d11ac8897eb7f2605834155b88f89272811ddb1c31e6a7fa.jpg
There are certain blows in life that are inevitable, and not even rigorous preparation can prevent them from causing harm. To those in military conflicts, natural disasters, or with loved ones facing a tough illness, I send love and the wish for a swift recovery.

"Many times, it's better not to listen at all. In certain matters, it's wiser to be deceived than to live in distrust." —Séneca
Now, think about this in relation to #Bitcoin: In clown world, constant doubt, hidden fees, and opaque systems often force us into a state of distrust. But Bitcoin offers an alternative—transparent, decentralized, and trustless. It allows you to engage without needing to constantly question the system. Would you rather stick with a system that requires your constant skepticism, or embrace one designed to free you from it?
What do you think? Can trustless technology like Bitcoin help create a more transparent world?
We are civilized. We believe in transparency, honesty, and speaking only the truth. #Bitcoin and #Nostr together—this is the first real combo for plebs like us! It’s time to take control, break #free, and use it. More.
