i do wonder about some hams

i get one or two of these a month, over a year old QSO confirmations

this one is 3 years old!!!! think it a oldest one i have ever seen (Sending callsign blacked out)

i try and upload my logs to eQSL and QRZ at the end on a session or following day at the latest

LoTW i tend to upload quarterly as i don't use it for myself, but upload for those how actively use it

having a bit of FT8 fun with my Xiegu X6100

running only 8-10w, bit of QRP fun :)
 #SSTV #20m #Yoniq

plenty of SSTV on 20m (14.230Mhz USB) but conditions don't appear great looking at the rx images

see my last 16 images receieved at (auto updates as images received)

It's been raining for close to 24hrs now.
@2eea00d0 situation normal for north of the border dale

the only difference between days is whether its liquid, solid or white fluffy water falling out the sky :)
@8f54e24a try narrowing the upper / lower limits to cover 2300-2600mhz you may see it better as with a wide bandwidth it averages points so it looks worse than it actually is
@f3cefe4c any update on the SSTV event?
first pass of day (only 1deg above horizon) in 30min
 @M0UAW @2eea00d0 @1056510e

you could have so much fun, changing prices to say things like "£2.40, THEY WANT HOW MUCH!!!"
or
"its 30p cheaper in tesco's" :) :)
@f3cefe4c i did check 437.800Mhz and heard the cross band repeater so i knew the ISS was overhead so confirmed TLE data correct

leaving the rig listening for next 2 days in the hope may hear something :)

station info
Yeasu FT-991a
Diamond X200 2m/70cm antenna
SatPC32 for tracking / doppler
Yoniq 1.13 for SSTV decode

@f3cefe4c had a quick check in case they hadn't reset frequency but nothing heard on 145.825 the last minute or so of the pass either
@f3cefe4c nothing heard this pass either

no APRS on 145.825 either so something not quite right on the new setup

i think but can't be certain i can hear a very weak SSTV right in the static, could be wishful thinking as not seeing any form of carrier on 145.800
@f3cefe4c nothing heard from ISS, just passed overhead at 85 deg elevation

anyone else received anything?

@60fe34c4 TLE's change over time as ISS / satellites change orbit due to atmospheric drag, collision avoidance manoeuvres, orbital boosts to prevent orbit decaying etc

so every week or so you should update TLE's / Keplers to ensure the accurate tracking of the satellite / object in orbit you want to receive signals from
@2eea00d0 part of the reason mine stays tidy is i don't sit in front of it while operating

i sit on the sofa and RDP into the computer :)

FLRig is great for that as you can see PWR, SWR, TX / RX status etc
@af279435 i have one of those cassette recorders in the loft, along with a Spectrum 48k (and a spectrum 128k:) a pair of microdrives and i think there is even a original printer that used the metalised paper

top on landing cupboard is also a ZX81 with wobbly ram pack :)

@2eea00d0 usually manage to keep it nice for a few days, if i am being really good then a week :)
M0PWX shack after tidying up and putting 2nd power supply in place

top shelf has Laptop for WX Satellite reception, 2 PSU's Xiegu G90 and FT991a

Bottom shelf has the PC running the both radio's for digital modes

been meaning put the 2nd PSU online for about 6 months

also put a power meter on the mains plug powering it all, pleasantly surprised to find it only using 130-150 watts on RX :)

update from ARISS on the old bird site

SSTV event is to test the new SSTV hardware that was sent to the ISS earlier this year

SSTV images will be transmitted from the ISS at a frequency of 145.800 MHz using a Kenwood TM-D710 transceiver. They are expected to use the PD-120 SSTV format.

Schedule: Transmission starts: October 03, 2023 at ~14:
40 UTC.
End of transmission: October 05, 2023 at ~18:15 UTC.

couple of hours to go before ISS SSTV,

time to ensure you update TLE's / Keplars's on any apps like orbitron / SatPC32 used for doppler tracking :)
 #Aurora

looks like west coast of Canada might have some nice aurora visible now

20m SSTV seems to be active, but conditions don't seem great looking at the received images

they auto upload from Yoniq SSTV-ftp

@1f8d831d @1056510e hence when it was announced Win 11 allowed andriod apps to be run by the OS, i turned to the dark side and bought a macbook

when i looked at the early release stuff it didn't even seem to be sandboxed, just running in a local hyper-v instance with access to network and os :(

(lesser of 2 evils for me, not quite are the stage of becoming a full linux nerd :) )

@80c365f8 chokes need to be as close to the buck-boost convertor as possible to prevent the leads radiating RFI, and ideally if that noisy put it in a metal enclosure with the chokes inside
interesting little graph, been analysing my electric cost

(yes i am that sad i keep all my electric receipts)

for my sins never changed my PAYG meter, as don't want to be forced onto direct debit and at the mercy of the energy companies increasing monthly payments as they like and helping themselves to my money

i can go back a couple more years when i get time to add in the older receipts

have a look at the app store information and see how many apps want access to camera, microphone, address book etc then ask

"why does this app need that access when it doesn't use them?"

the answer is simple MONEY

the developer uses the information to build a profile of you and your contacts then sells it to ad slingers and anyone else who will pay for it

the more personal the data that is collected the more valuable it is to sell

SIMPLE

rant over
 #privacy #smart #tech

this is why i rarely load apps for services or devices, with a web portal you don't give as much personal data / access away

if a device is app only access it don't come in my house unless there's a VERY good reason or i've checked it don't need excessive permissions to your device
