the fucking Salvation Army sent us paper mail asking for donations

a lot of people don't realize that it is a religious organization (it's right there in the name) with a strong anti-queer agenda. we have friends who've been personally affected by the discriminatory manner in which they provide services and by the hateful conduct of their staff.

donate to local food banks and shelters, not to the Salvation Army. thank you.
@ed709062 our working hypothesis has been that it's a medium that rewards that, both due to the social signals that make people want to be around loud/brash people coming across better through video and voice, and due to the algorithm prioritizing *engagement* over whatever user priorities would organically drive repeat traffic in the absence of algorithmic intervention
is there some n for which banning all computer networks larger than n nodes would have prevented,...
@6ee66bbf memes were really common even way back in the email days. so probably even a pretty small n would accomplish your goal.

we weren't really part of the BBS scene though we lived through it, but our impression was that they weren't as big back then. less ability to forward stuff.
instead of trying to fix the problem of LLM-assisted content farms by charging money to do a search

how about remove the incentive for it and build search tools that simply exclude any site that's selling something or running ads of any kind

like that's the actually useful results anyway, to end users, right?

@c88dc264 @000400f6 for the record, we sympathize. we are generally quite good at sorting through memory stuff of this nature, but it is something we had to learn. it was not easy to learn.

@af151d0b we're pretty sure we're just not in the audience for this question, and our apologies if this answer is unhelpful, but when we develop websites we do it in vim and we get the preview by reloading the page. using a GUI tool would slow us down immensely, we can't really understand how anybody can stand it.
