Well, that's enough of that, then. For mental health reasons, I'm putting #debate, #PresidentialDebate, #USPol, Biden, and Trump all on mute for the next 24 hours. Depending on what starts popping up again tomorrow, it may go back up.
@Low Information Voter Some things can't be broken up. In the case of Boeing, part of the problem is that they *were* broken up, spinning off manufacturing plants into contractors who can be blamed when things go wrong.
@Low Information Voter Electricity distribution is another thing that shouldn't be privatized. The priority should be to make sure electricity is distributed to customers safely and consistently not to make profit for investors.

Any company that is so important that its collapse would cause extreme harm to society, it shouldn't be privately operated. It also shouldn't be a for-profit organization since other things obviously must take priority over profit.
@99b9ed46@70512795@58587491 Yeah, not to be confused with MLMs which are a *whole* other problem. I dread the day that someone creates an MLM selling LLMs. FML.
@70512795@99b9ed46@58587491 An example is ChatGPT.
To expand on that, it stands for large language model. It creates an internal model of a language using the aforementioned stolen text and uses it to predict what word comes next. It's basically autocorrect with extra hallucinations.
@70512795@99b9ed46@58587491 LLMs are a solution looking for a problem. You can usually tell by the way it's marketed as being useful for anything and everything while not actually being better than anything that already exists.
Other types of generative AI aren't as bad, though that isn't saying much since LLMs are the literal worst. There are, at least, a handful of cases where they have advantages over existing solutions, but they still need a lot of handholding.
@0f342e77 Democrats wouldn't do that, though, they need Republican antagonism in order to win elections. If they actually start being effectual the GOP might become irrelevant and then people could start voting for third parties.
@58587491 My initial reaction to them was something along the lines of "Ok, sure, so, what's the point?" And, as it turned out, the point was money laundering, tax evasion, and scamming people. I don't think making climate change worse was entirely intentional, people making them just didn't give a shit.
