@5b6411ac @f4f101c0 An ex colleague got reasonable survival results from aerial image analysis on a 2 year old planting a few years back. I think that was in R.

I have successfully used LIDAR to delineate emergent podocarps in QGIS. Ā great tool for finding big trees in hard to access places.

I'm really keen to see what you both come up with.

I know lots of work happening by Regional Councils to quantify indigenous vegetation cover for the NPS-IB as well.

We first trialled cardboard plant guards back in 2019 and haven't looked back.

True that they only last a couple of seasons at best but the ability to biodegrade is a huge asset.

These plastics guards were used by contractors for a planting in 2016. Seven years later they're still there and now it's up to us a volunteers to remove them.

We need to be very careful that so-called green solutions don't end up causing more problems than they solve. The arguments against seabed mining are the same arguments against offshore wind, with the addition of potentially significant impacts on seabirds.

I was shifting some stuff around in the garage today and saw that the plastic in my dive fins has perished and cracked.

At first I was disappointed but I bought them 16 years ago so not too bad I guess.
