This is probably just a case of some junior comms person not having a good handle on the data but if you're going to make a claim make sure you can back it up first!
We first trialled cardboard plant guards back in 2019 and haven't looked back.
True that they only last a couple of seasons at best but the ability to biodegrade is a huge asset.
These plastics guards were used by contractors for a planting in 2016. Seven years later they're still there and now it's up to us a volunteers to remove them.

I was shifting some stuff around in the garage today and saw that the plastic in my dive fins has perished and cracked.
At first I was disappointed but I bought them 16 years ago so not too bad I guess.
