it's interesting how it's impossible for vaccines to give you 5G radios that are implanted in your body or whatever, because that's just too small to make something practically functional

and yet a company has actually made a working prototype of a SELF CONTAINED CONTACT LENS that includes a cpu, wireless radios, display, and battery, which functions as an augmented reality display. it actually fits on a human eyeball (somewhat like a full-coverage SPFX contact lens.)

One is too small and out of the realm of current tech; the other is going to be actually practical before you realize it.

@6e9427cf yeah that’s the most reasonable complaint I’ve seen, I guess.

I want to say that “some people have secret phones” is perhaps not a reason to NOT implement a national alert system, and I only say that because a national alert system seems really useful if you ever need to use it. There is just this scenario where it would alert people to a secret device.

I suppose if you can opt out universally then that’s fine. Only people who want to opt out are going to opt out.
I feel like some people don’t like the idea of a national alert system like the USA just tested and I’d like to hear why because it seems smart?
#WordWeavers 9/14: does your antagonist have any likeable or redeemable qualities?

Buck/Xyrex the anthro wolf space pirate is capable of love and affection.

He generally tries to 'go after' people who are also criminals, since it's easier for law enforcement to look the other way when one smuggler beats the other one up and takes their stolen lunch money. That could be seen as 'robinhooding'.

He's 'conventionally attractive', and even with his 'pirate scars' is rakishly attractive.

He wouldn't ever do anything to hurt a child or a pet or wild animal (icky bugs not withstanding).

He's good at gardening.

He was extremely supportive of his late spouse's transition to female despite his often callous attitude towards members of the opposite sex (and people in general).
#PennedPossibilities 71 - was your MC ever bullied as a child?

Hawk, a six-foot-seven-inch-tall black-furred anthropomorphic wolf who wears 'intimidating' leather fetish clothing pretty much 24/7 and who has a baritone Brooklyn accent and attitude... was in fact bullied as a child, especially in middle and high school.

He looked mean and didn't have many friends, and didn't pick physical fights, and so was immediately branded an outsider. It doesn't matter why you're an outsider or who you are; schoolkids will tease you for that. At least in America; I don't know what this is like in other countries.

He does not get bullied as an adult. If someone tries to bully him, they will regret it, at the very least because they'll have to listen to him go off about it.
 What is a #generativeAI like #chatGPT doing?

/It is finding the most statistically probable word...
@6e9427cf the way I think of it is, if you ask a generative LLM to make a five paragraph essay about how Tom Sawyer is actually an anarcho-communist, you're going to get five paragraphs that look like they do that.

it won't actually argue the point. and it definitely won't argue the point using supporting research you found in some books of literary analysis at the library.

(why did they make us do this in english class, anyway?)

It might invent a citation that states something like that argument, which isn't real.

It's emitting text that looks like what you want.

This seems to make more sense with graphical output - a picture that looks like garfield but an oil painting of a real orange cat, is a picture that looks like garfield but an oil painting of a real cat.

A fake argument with nonexistent citations? that's just HARM. that's unintentional misinformation.
Bluesky is all in a self-congratulatory frenzy over reaching a million users. Still no word abou...
@40cd5708 I didn't realize bluesky was meant to be part of the activitypub fediverse. I thought it used some different similar idea called ATProto or something?
