It would be so much easier for Canadians to ignore US politics if the right-leaning parties here weren’t so eager to import the culture war and campaigning-without-solutions tactics
One of our provincial governments has decided to use their power to override our Charter of Rights and Freedoms (it’s called the Notwithstanding Clause) to pass a culture war law that doesn’t allow trans school kids to be called by their preferred name or pronouns. Imagine the desperation you feel as a politician to pick on school-aged children.
Whenever I see another angry rant from a developer who does OSS work, I am reminded the path to success Back In My Day was speaking at conferences and building up your networking connections.
People like myself who have worked in very comfortable remote computer programming jobs for a long time would do well to remember that the behaviour of people doing things like driving their cars through floodwaters is because many of them would get fired if they don’t show up because their employers are assholes, not because they are stupid, ignorant risk-takers.
I read this and it really sums up how the ultra-wealthy and large corporations have the ability to ignore whatever agreements they signed and just do whatever the fuck they want.
