01 August 2024 - since 13 December 2023 i noticed radio channel at work 16 was being used outside of hours. They figured out i had noticed and 06 January 2024 those with investigatory powers started using channel 3 instead but this time whenever it was my turn to go out to an outpost only the channel will be open then radio silence. It would only come on at the very moment i got to the outpost and turn off the very moment i left and this went on until 01 August 2024 when i fat fingered the button and broke my radio silence letting them know i knew. Also the car park across the road from the outpost had cars that left at the same time as channel 3 closing **while i am at the outpost** in the last hour of shift. "On July 25, 1972, the Tuskegee syphilis experiments were exposed to the world. In the experiments, Black men were systematically infected with and killed using syphilis for “research purposes.”
In 1932, the US Public Health Service started a medical study of syphilis in Tuskegee, Alabama. The area had one of the highest rates of infection.
In the middle of the Great Depression, the government recruited 600 impoverished Black men to participate by providing them with free transportation, free hot meals, and free medical treatments for ailments other than syphilis, as well as burial insurance.
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that, if left untreated, can lead to skin lesions, blindness, deafness, meningitis, heart disease, and death. In its early stages, it can be treated with just one shot of penicillin.
The researchers injected the men with syphilis, intending to kill them and dissect their bodies afterward. Participants were told they were being treated for “bad blood” and were given only iron tonic and aspirin during the 40-year-long study.
In 1947, penicillin was shown to cure syphilis and became widely available. Yet, for decades afterward, the government forbade these Black men from receiving treatment.
Of the 600 participants, around 200 were forced to suffer the effects of the infection and allowed to spread it to their families. 128 participants died, 40 wives were infected, and 19 children were born with congenital syphilis.
Due to mass outrage over the medical abuse, the participants and their families were awarded $9 million in a settlement with the government. However, an undisclosed amount remains in court-controlled accounts and is being denied to descendants of those medically maimed.
It was only in 1997 that the US government issued a formal apology under President Bill Clinton. However, no one was ever prosecuted for this state-sponsored medical abuse.
The Tuskegee experiments are just one of many instances of medical abuse of Black people in the US. It remains a key reason why some Black people distrust doctors and the medical field at large."

Today, in 2017, the Grenfell Tower, a residential apartment building in West London, was hit by a devastating fire that burnt for 60 hours, killing 72 people. Why were people left to be burnt to death in one of the richest cities in the world?
The fire was caused by a faulty refrigerator on the 16th floor just before 1 am, but a column of flames quickly started spreading up the side of the building. Smoke and flames spread to multiple apartments, but residents who called the fire brigade were told to stay put.
Eventually, the London Fire Brigade ordered an evacuation of the tower at 02:47 am, but it was too late for many residents who could not escape due to the heat and smoke in the lobbies and stairs. Only 36 people survived after the evacuation order was given.
It soon became clear that the fire had spread so quickly because the building’s cladding and insulation were highly flammable. The local council had installed it despite warnings about the potential risk, and it was cheaper than safer alternatives.
Opened in 1974, Grenfell Tower was a form of council or social housing offered by the local authority for working-class residents. Grenfell did not have a sprinkler system that would have saved many lives, as although laws changed in 2007, they only applied to new buildings.
Six years on, an inquiry has yet to report its findings fully, and no charges have been brought against officials. Meanwhile, the tower itself is still standing as a chilling reminder of the disgraceful way working-class communities are treated in London and the UK.
57 of the victims were from Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority backgrounds from the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, South Asia, and Latin America. There is a clear link between race, poverty, and discrimination that led to the neglect that caused the tragedy.
The Grenfell tragedy highlighted the way people in social housing have been demonized and abused by the rich and powerful. Kensington and Chelsea Council threatened a Grenfell resident with prosecution after he wrote about his safety concerns online.

The NLF’s left-wing took control in a bloodless coup in 1969. It renamed the country the “People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen,” embraced Marxism-Leninism as its governing philosophy, and aligned with the Soviet Bloc.
Despite officially identifying with the Soviet Bloc after 1969, the left wing of the NLF remained heavily inspired by China and Maoist political philosophy.
In 1968, the NLF sent an official delegation on a working visit to China. Leading Chinese Communist Party officials, including Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Chen Yi, accompanied them.
The NLF, still nominally Nasserist in 1968, expressed its intentions to adopt Marxism-Leninism as its guiding ideology with the Chinese officials. In turn, the Chinese spoke about their own experiences.
Although the NLF’s Nasserist faction was deposed in 1969, Salim Rubai Ali, the first president of Marxist Yemen, remained devoted to drawing inspiration from Maoist theory.
Salim organized the “Seven Glorious Days” in 1972, inspired by the Chinese Cultural Revolution. During these days, hundreds of thousands of workers and peasants were brought to the capital to protest party bureaucracy.
Salim also organized the People’s Militia, inspired by the Chinese Red Guards of the 1970s. He viewed the creation of the Yemeni Socialist Party as unnecessary bureaucracy and introduced the progressive Family Law in 1974.
Salim introduced a school system inspired by the Chinese model in both rural and metropolitan areas. This system was devoid of class differences and hierarchies and was built on the foundational principle of criticism and self-criticism.
Salim Rubai Ali was shot dead in an internal coup on July 26, 1978 and replaced by moderate NLF leader Ali Nassir Muhammad, bringing Yemen’s brief Maoist period to an end.

Militant environmental activists are stepping up their fight in France. The construction of the A69 highway, which aims to connect Castres to Toulouse, has been met with escalating resistance from environmental activists. On June 8, thousands of demonstrators gathered near Puylaurens, defying a ban imposed at the request of Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.
The protest, which saw participation from approximately 7,000 activists, was marked by fierce clashes with the police. Ambulances and doctors were repeatedly blocked entrance at police checkpoints, preventing them from assisting injured protesters.
The controversy surrounding the A69 project stems from its anticipated environmental impact. Critics, including leftist and environmental groups as well as scientists, argue that the 53-kilometer highway will lead to the destruction of wetlands, agricultural lands, trees, ecosystems, and aquifers. They contend that the highway's benefits, primarily aimed at reducing travel time, are negligible in comparison to the environmental costs.
Michel Forst, the UN Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders, visited the site recently and called for "immediate protective measures" for the activists. Forst criticized France for having the worst record in Europe regarding police repression of environmental activists, highlighting the excessive use of force.
