@b870d4c8 One thing to consider is funding. In the past, Hamas has done smaller-scale stuff of this nature when they've been cut off by one country or another, in a bid to get someone to pay them to stop, basically. This happened after Iran cut ties when Hamas backed Sunni rebels in Syria, for example, and Egypt eventually bribed them to stop.

Alternatively, a financial backer could have persuaded them to attack as part of some larger geopolitical "chess", but only Putin would be that stupid.

@46cd5609 Ughhh, I've spent the past few months battling hypovolemia. Taking 2g sodium tablets per day and chugging gatorade, eating the saltiest pretzels in the store.

I cannot fathom trying to deliberately induce this state.
further, effective treatment of Epilepsy is known to have an 8fold increased risk of depression.

@46cd5609 Many years ago, an ex-girlfriend saw the Black Box warning on my Keppra, warning of possible suicidality. I think one reason for the warning was that Keppra is one of the few anticonvulsants that doesn't work as a mood stabilizer.

I tried explaining this to her, that the warning was there because it could happen if someone used it for a completely different condition. But yeah, that scared her more than actually witnessing a seizure.

People are irrational.

@46cd5609 The sad part is, I lived in Oklahoma for a few years, and I can't recommend the quality of healthcare out there. Admittedly, part of this is that they have a state-level version of the DEA that makes the DEA look reasonable by comparison.

And part of it was one resident who actually began a sentence with "in my experience" and unfortunately I was not working in healthcare policy at that time because G_d help me if I hear another resident ever use that phrase.

@b870d4c8 The late 19th century is a pretty good comparison in terms of technological change outracing the government systems still stuck in feudal aristocracies.

Unfortunately, the forces of politics and technology collided in Sarajevo in June 1914, ending the that age (hardly the first) of globalization.

It sure would be nice to transition ages without a 30 year period of World Wars for the third or fourth time, though...
