I, for one, think LLMs are just fine writing for the sports beat. It’s low stakes and mostly just about scores and numbers, yeah?

“Brandon Hunter useless at 42”

“Former NBA participant Brandon Hunter, who beforehand performed for the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic, has handed away on the age of 42, as introduced by Ohio males’s basketball coach Jeff Boals on Tuesday.”

Me: “If you claim #accessibility is a core principle but your v0 does not include it, then it is not a core principle.”
https://adrianroselli.com/2022/11/accessibility-gaps-in-mvps.html

A blue-check: “v0.dev produces the kind of production-grade code that we'd want to ship in our own Vercel products.”

@8a5e1378 demonstrates my prescience (and the blue-check’s failure to understand “production-ready”):

This afternoon I took my fika on the front porch as a Laurel & Hardy pair of surveyors bickered with each other across hundred foot distances (but mostly around my house).

In other news, I am on the lookout for wrecking balls.

@d31ceb58 It will not, but some of my examples will end up online.
@ae301a2a Yeah, I have been monitoring the Chromium PRs and waiting for them to hash out some of the things that caused them to roll it back in 2018. Looking forward to it in 118.
The party’s spelljamming ship approaches a planet with a massive force field.

After blasting it with ship weapons, assorted spells, and a summoned quetzalcoatlus, the autognome barbarian asks to be lowered to the field.

The party, wary it will kill anyone on contact, happily lowers the autognome.

#DnD #Spelljammer
When the autognome barbarian is not immediately vaporized, the tortle druid decides it is safe to levitate down and watch.

After about an hour of constant bashing from the barbarian, the druid tires and suggests the party try a different approach.

The autognome barbarian is just happy to have had the opportunity to fight a whole planet.

#DnD #Spelljammer
Chromium (Google) is running at “exclusive accordions” without it being hashed out within WHATWG or with AT users.

I am trying to remind them to consider screen reader users in particular both at the informal poll (https://github.com/openui/open-ui/issues/812#issuecomment-1692360733) and in the bug tracker (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1444057#c11).

@3bc89a16 1998 called and wants its HTML back.
FWIW, I make my case for the inability for any ‘AI’ (the fake ones we have today or the idealized future versions) to know the context or intent of the author:
https://adrianroselli.com/2023/06/no-ai-will-not-fix-accessibility.html

Developer laziness that harms humans.
I had been considering using this example of an ‘AI’ image recognition tool falling down on a spotless giraffe for my coming talk:
https://www.aiweirdness.com/ai-vs-a-giraffe-with-no-spots/

But then @d31ceb58 wrote something far better than I could talk about in 30 seconds:
https://benmyers.dev/blog/spotless-giraffe/

For my talk, I also asked Midjourney to render wheelchair users and it did them dirty (not including in my talk). So yup. AI cannot fix #accessibility nor represent disability.
I should maybe try the occasional podcast more often.

Here, @6317cf7c talks standards, accessibility, and @758c907c’s pants:

@3bc89a16 They cite CDNs in the explainer, so yeah. They genuinely are trying to shoe-horn their broken model into a non-analogous one.
This is a @78078510 Community Group. This means W3C provides the mailing list and forum, but does not endorse the group. It has no formal standing.

It is *not* a standards-track document.

Regardless, there is value in reading through the list and exploring what you can do to reduce the emissions footprints of your web projects.
I am mentioning this because IMO it is important that W3C Community Groups are clearly and explicitly identified as not formal, not endorsed, not standards track.

Otherwise, you get overlay vendors continuing to try to cash in on the good name of W3C for their Overlay Community Group (renamed to ‘Accessibility at the Edge’ because apparently they are stuck in 1992).

 @1e8ded32 /me sighs in Safari.

Yeah, since I never wrapped it up for a post I never ran it through testing on niche opinionated platforms.

Thanks.

@365a528d Whatever the electric company uses to clear forests, really.
It’s like my eyebrows are trying to strangle me.
I was playing around with 2.5.8 examples back in May. Was going to turn it into a blog post. Forgot.

Anyway:
https://codepen.io/aardrian/pen/OJBZyjL
Just fixed the very first example because I realized the browser was adding rounded corners, meaning they did _not_ pass at 24px and the spacing exception had to kick in.

So I removed the roundedness.

Rounderness? Roundederingness? Curvey bits?
Battle Unit, the party’s autognome barbarian, who named the company Shipping Unit LLC and the turtle-shaped spelljamming ship Turtle Unit, is not fond of the baseline autognome (NPC) that someone gifted a Headband of Intellect (to make it the ship’s boson).

Battle Unit has started calling the arrogant bot “Insufferable Unit” and the NPC is not happy that name stuck — especially since it was coined by the INT 9 Battle Unit.

Last night I sat down to play ‘Root’ with a brand new player.

She looked online for a how-to-play guide and found this:

I decided to let the entire video play.

An ongoing Safari bug since at least 2018 (reported fixed more than once by Apple over the years), Safari TP 176 on macOS 13.4 may have *finally* allowed tables to use `display` properties without utterly breaking:
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257458

Should be in Safari 17, but not clear if or how it will be supported in macOS 12 (should be fine for macOS 13).

A worst case scenario is users needing to update hardware to get a fix for this years-old bug.

So, that judge has an interesting back-story.

Unclear if anything will happen to Marion’s police chief, Gideon Cody.
