Maybe some chicken-and-egg here? More great tools, content, people == more growth of the protocol?
Yeah, nostr has to get past being the place that people just talk about nostr. That naturally happens over time. Every tech protocol (new way of doing things) starts with a small group and spreads from there if it is successful. If there's nothing to draw people to using it, it becomes less used as the enthusiasm of the initial group wanes. Being creative with communication and with the other possibilities of the protocol (NIPS) are likely to be the key to widespread nostr adoption.
There was an app called TweetoshiApp, it had an awesome system of engaging users in timeline conversations by rewarding users with Sats in periods of time (every 12 hours) on the inApp wallet. Daily you could get as much as 1200 Sats depending on your engagement and time spent on the app as well as your interactions. This would really help me grow my audience and ZAP other initiatives.
Plus if this happened you would see a lot of people leaving traditional social media and coming over to #nostr to monetize their work while earning #Bitcoin, influencers, enterpreneurs, coaches, teachers, students, workers or artisans, etc. would spend more and more time on this app. For me the opportunity for every user is on the badges and rewards and not so much on Sats, but daily Sat giveaways are crucial, at least every 12 hours.
I am surprised at how small the audience is right now at nostr. I thought I had totally missed my chance at being an early adopter because I didn't jump on a year ago when I heard about it. Saw on @nostr.band that I am currently in the top 20 trending users and that earlier I briefly held the number one trending user status. Currently about nine thousand active users a day. That's enough to have a significant audience... but tiny compared to most other popular social networks. I guess I am early enough to consider myself an early adopter! The search and stats are superior on nostr compared to the Fediverse. There's already easy to find tools to get a lot of information about what's happening on the nostr network.
