In the Ruby of Rails 20th anniversary talk, David Heinemeier Hansson touched on this point and said that they are migrating all their servers to bare metal ones to escape the rent cage.

 Ive read their books back in 2011 when basecamp was quite popular. I rediscovered them 2 years ago with their Rework podcast 🤓 I love the idea how to outteach competition
