Agree, it makes the most sense, but still quite meaningless in terms of the trustworthiness of the results. It's not very different from an emoji poll many people do with regular reactions.
Most polls aren't 'important' enough to warrant the worry imo, and their unimportance means it's not likely to be scammed. But having fun and facilitating engagement on a social media platform isn't meaningless. It could potentially contribute to keeping people here. (Imagine @primal sidebar has Popular / Latest polls' for eg. cc nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqpq6c0nh3dnadzqpm76uctf5hqhe2lny344zsmpm6feee9p5rdxaa9qqh8vzc a massive improvement already on the current options and a tool for engagement / discussion. ) You could say the same thing about zap polls, you could just have zaps with an Yes emoji message and zaps with a No emoji message instead. Do away with polls altogether.
The issue is that people think they can get some info out of a poll when they can't without post processing the to remove all the crap. I was with you that polls didn't need to be super serious, but in practice people get really dissatisfied when their poll becomes irrelevant. So much that they stop creating polls altogether. Idk..
I've done plenty of polls on pollerama and never had a problem, or felt the need to filter them, I've never seen anyone complain about pollerama polls either actually. So it's not all people. But I do appreciate your logic. I'd like to think both zap/normal polls can be accommodated and it is another tool for interesting post/discussion discovery, which it isn't, in its current mostly unused state
There are reasonable measures that can be taken to make it less scammy especially when results have real consequences (winners get rewards or something) . We've discussed this on the spec itself. I do think this is the right spec to build on and we can actually plug the holes that we already know about as usage grows. I really like chachi.chat 's implementation. I'm not sure if they've modified the relay for this implementation as recommended on the nip but they seem like the right app to incorporate that and have high stakes polls within communities 😛
Chachi has the advantage of polls being confined to a certain group where only the members can vote. Didn't need to modify the relays, NIP-29 relays already enforce not accepting events in the past or the future. Deletes are still supported by the relay but I don't think is a big deal. Chachi UI doesn't let you delete a vote after casting it. > There are reasonable measures that can be taken to make it less scammy especially when results have real consequences (winners get rewards or something) .
