Just walked away from my fiat mine job a couple weeks ago, can relate. Taxes, and also the endless grind - whatever your definition of the good life is, that wasn't it. Did you renounce citizenship, or just work jobs outside the system? Looking at Costa Rica and Portugal myself. 

 Working on my second passport this year. No plan to leave the US yet but that may happen one day.
