although what I say here is how terms are generally used, its not strictly correct

RingCT is the name of the transaction protocol that includes a lot of stuff
including the stealth addresses, Confidential Transactions and ring signatures 

so what we're talking about here is the ring sigs that hide the sender among decoys and NOT the greater protocol
