I’m going to say it again: I like the Bluesky tech, but there’s just something wrong over there. A very narrow range of accounts and content ever seem to get any traction, and most users respond with likes at times, but deeper replies are very rare. Maybe things will change now that hashtags are coming, but I still think something very inorganic is going on there. I don’t know what. I just know it feels gamey and I don’t trust it yet.
And I’m not even speaking of my own posts when I speak of replies and engagements there. I know a lot of journalists and big brands, and I follow them there pretty closely. The same peers and beltway Mouseketeer clubs they grew up with on Twitter still engage them there, but almost no one else does. And since tech journalism has shrunk to something small enough to be drowned in a bathtub, don’t expect much analysis or confirmation of my anecdotal observations.
@40cd5708 I think I'm in that narrow range; the vaporwave scene are super engaged, and I have proper conversations every day. Comic book folk too are v engagy. Here on my old server (closing down, hence the move to this one), it was tumbleweed town. Still, never returning to Twitter (gone since last October), and have zero interest in Threads.
