GM, What is your preferred zap size and why?
I’ll start:
1,000 sats is my default because it’s enough to actually mean something for the receiver, like dropping a quarter into every decent street musician’s cup if I was able to traverse like 100 streets in a day. It’s also just enough for me to be a little selective about what I zap. Lastly it still doesn’t wipe me out when I zap a lot.
My “Damn this is solid” zap is usually 2,100 sats
And my “Perfect 5/7” zap is 10,000 sats 🤣

Ill refresh because I’m not seeing the zap button yet. But just in case you take your [username]@getably.com and you out it in your Lightning address location in your profile details. Then after that propagates to relays it will update your posts to have the zap button available.

21. I like the number and think someday in the future there will be cent/sat parity and I don’t want my default zap number to ever go down because of bitcoin gains in purchasing power.
21 is my like, then kind of randomly 138 (69x2!), 512, 667, 1024, 2048, 4096.
I rarely do more than that.

Been working on these kind of metrics for almost 20 years. I measure everything I do. My default is 1000 if something makes me laugh. It's a bit painful for my wallet size, but I think it's fair.
I'm new at this so this is helpful. I doubt I even have 200 sats (I should figure out how to check that). It's lame that I can't zap from Damus. Again, still learning.

I also feel that it's not the value of the sats but the act itself. It's akin to a "like" or a thumbs up, a simple gesture to show appreciation. If I feel that the person is deserving of something more in a monetary sense then sure I'll manually bump it up to 1k.
My preferred zap size? I don’t discriminate. People can zap me as much as they want 😂
When I send them, I typically use 21 for zapathon and similar situations, and then 100, 210, 2100, and 5000 depending on the quality of the post I’m zapping.
I try to zap every post that I like, so I also use smaller defaults.
I’ve been thinking about what to increase my default amount to, because I’m trying to more or less zap as much as I get zapped.
Over on Stacker News, the default tips increased dramatically after someone asked this question and made us all think about what we wanted to accomplish with our zaps. Maybe you can be a similar catalyst for change on nostr.
