Following the asknostr hashtag has accidentally been working as the best mute list funnel. #protip
Hmmm… need to check this out!
It is mostly people asking questions, so kind of good to follow and answer like quora or something. But it also attracts irrelevant hashtag spammers which is an immediate warning sign of a shite account, imo. Lol.
But I also appreciate nostr doesn't have a proper discovery / reach system. Well not beyond the big accounts reposting you. (Which is a somewhat irksome reality of Nostr).
Nostr may not have algos but we have a system of big accounts boosting /reposting that is acting as algos. So it's sort of to their tastes/interest/if you become chummy with them etc that sometimes means users are discovered. Perhaps encourages parasocial sucking up, appealing to their taste and favour maybe? (Not necessarily tho, obviously.)
i hope there is a better way
But is the Web of Trust thing adding another mechanism that could further cement this in-group scenario / stagnation? (Genuine question I have no idea). I would hope that smarter people than me who actually know and build stuff are tackling this lol. People do like to talk about silos a lot, so I would imagine so...?
yes, though tbh, this is for large part also how it works on twitter, small accounts are very unlikely to be picked up by the actual algo, and are sorted way down for replies, until some big account happens to retweet them and they gain tons of followers it has gotten more like that over time, i guess because of anti-troll/spam as well as to encourage people to buy the "verified" subscription at least there's no algo here that intentionally buries you either 😅

There may be communities here that are unknown and unsearchable you're right. And perhaps the circumstances actually may mean that is how they want it to be even. I think there are a few genuine fairly formed bubbles here, Meshtastic being the main one I can think of. It's interesting how this happens tho. Like Venn diagrams or something.
