The $95 billion foreign aid package passed by the House includes about $61 billion for Ukraine and replenishing weapons stockpiles, $26 billion for supporting Israel and providing humanitarian relief for people in Gaza, and $8 billion for helping U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific region and countering China. The package is expected to be passed by the Senate in the coming week. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., proposed the package to aid Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The overall amount provided to Ukraine for the purchase of weapons would be $13.8 billion, with more than $9 billion of economic assistance in the form of "forgivable loans." About $4 billion of the aid for Israel would be dedicated to replenishing its missile defense systems, and more than $9 billion would go toward humanitarian assistance in Gaza. The aid for U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific region includes more than $3.3 billion for submarine infrastructure and development, and $1.9 billion to replenish U.S. weapons provided to Taiwan and other regional allies.
