What's your productivity secret? What tools to you use to support organization and smooth flow? #asknostr
I use pomodoro https://todoist.com/productivity-methods/pomodoro-technique
+1
You also use todoist? Not sure why I ditched it at some point... May try it again. Will see.
Never used it actually. I only use pomofocus but I will check it.
I use the #pomodoro method for productivity. I don't use todoist as a productivity tool. It was not my style. **The best tool is the one that fits with your workflow and organizational style (i.e. the one you will actually use)**. I used #Workflowy for years before switching to privacy-first #Logseq (it's like Workflowy on steroids!) + a free self-hosted instance of #Nextcloud with Nextcloud Deck for team collaboration projects. Both are free and open source. Logseq also has a premium version with features like Sync and Whiteboards. https://logseq.com/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oBtKHwFBn0k&list=PLNnZ7rjaL84JjFpgDxRlAOKRa9ie25gtp https://youtu.be/gZokslmBZug https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_0cHeSG8NBM
A brief riddle: one can only follow a productivity method if there is a will; if there is a will, a productivity method is dispensable.
A direct response: Using the right tools helps "the will" get the job well done, faster.
My will is smart, it knows all the tricks 🙃
Thank you, will schedule to peek at these... Sounds a little too complex for me as I am not self hosting savvy atm
So maybe Nextcloud is out. If you want, have a look at the Logseq website, then just give it a spun and play around for a bit. There's a mobile app as well, but I suggest starting on desktop. Once you get a little feel for the UI, then watch the small bite-sized course videos I shared, play along with the basics, and have fun with it for a week...see if it speaks to you. It's free and open source, so no harm, no foul. When you open it up, it looks like a minimalist note taking app! The cool thing about Logseq is It's as minimalist simple, basic and clutter-free, and also as powerful as you want to make it. The basics are only the beginning. There's a beast under the hood when and if you're ready to watch more of the videos and move beyond basic navigation. The plugin area is awesome; there's a ton of added functionality via plugins you can add, from GPT-3 to visualizing your notes as mindmaps, Kanban, and over 360 more if I recall correctly.
Forgot to mention, there's a live demo on the website homepage :)
Sweet! I may do this. Sounds cool and I wanna align my actions with my value system so open source makes this attractive. Though, I just drove back into Notion, where I'd purchased a template a couple of years ago and trying to integrate that I my life... Revising and contemplating if I wanna give it another go... We shall see. The try it for a week idea is great!
Ok I just watched the first video of the YouTube list you shared and I am looking forward to trying it... It absolutely addressed the consuming organizational mess I feel like I am dealing with and filing things away... And how I feel my brain works. I have been feeling this need the last few days to start some kind of organizational tree around storing journal entries, images and other files as I deepen with my Gene Keys studies and was thinking I might try Scrinever which is a tool I've used for years but never utilized its fullest potential... But this seems it may work even better. We will see.
Multiple paths (methods): sometimes Logseq, sometimes Obsidian, sometimes Tiddlywiki, other times paper notebook. Drift and have fun 😉
Oh cool. Thanks for reminding me... I used pomofocus.io for a period... Just reopened... I still have tasks on there from last year 😬
My pleasure. 😁😁😁
I use it too
What else do you use?
On my mac i use also focus mode and some music that can increase the focus allegedly. I think that's pretty much it.
Accidentally trained my dog to allow me to work on my laptop for 50 minutes with a 10 minute break for playing fetch. She only does it with my laptop and not my iPad. It’s like the pupster pomodoro technique.
Your dog is a keeper 😁😁😁
Animals are so great that way. My cat does something similar. She jumps up in the window sill to get my attention. She looks at me like, "Enough with the screens already!" Then I take her outside on the porch to play. 🐱
Me too 🙂
organisation is the key to my life. its all mental for me. i know where everything is. i can leave myself a mental note by displacing something. if im charging my phone and turn it in the wrong direction i can leave a mental note on it for the next day.
Cool stuff. What's your secret to having top notch organization? Is that something you learned, developed and grew into, or is innate and how you have always been?
High quality coffee
But yeah I am quitting coffee... Though drinking one right now after 3 hours of successfully saying no to it's siren call.
I am on 2 hours sleep in past 48 hours. Although long shifts best done with 1 coffee at the beginning and then just water, am kind of enjoying it and today it’s helping!
Oh my goodness... That sounds terrible 😬 why are you on 2 hour sleep in 48 hours? How long are your shifts? What do you do? How does your body handle that?
I steer oil wells to make sure they stay in the correct rocks. When we do operations, I do 12 hour shifts. The chap on nights lost internet. Broadband down, starlink fail and Verizon went down too so he lost all backups and I had to cover. Doesn't happen often. Body handles it as expected. Bad for a couple of days and then a long sleep!
Meaningful projects where you forget to pee and poop and eat
I've used forest before. Pushing commits feels just as good. I follow a couple pomodoro streamers.. The common denominator is, okay, I'll aim to get this or that done today, but if I can set out to work for x hours and do it, that the time itself can be an accomplishment. That keeps me going until I hit an actual milestone.
But the truth is, if I'm well rested, well fed, well hydrated, working on something I desire, how can I not be productive. The gym and the bed are such powerful places. Strategic keto/fasting too.
I am using ClickUp and Obsidian. I never go back! 🤓👌
Let your will be free.
