"edgy" does not count as surprising, edgy usually means contradictory (to expectation) or just plain disgusting (to provoke a reaction) while you can say that might be "surprising" on teh face of it if you actually look at the record of the character and the tone of their expressions this kind of "surprise" is part of their act
