Smartphones cost way too much now. Sure everyone uses them, but they keep pushing more powerful hardware mostly by bloating software, deprecating stuff way too rapidly, and batteries slowly improve but they are just fighting an uphill battle with software and hardware. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/111/143/131/497/974/679/original/02d8cee93b18b29e.jpeg
@eb948c00 Yeah. We've got to the point where the power of a five year old smartphone is sufficient for everything a normal user needs to do - videos, photos, browsing, etc. There's only so many cameras you can bolt onto the back of a phone.
@eb948c00 I got tinfoil hat theory that smartphones cost so much, as to force people into subsidizing them using phone plans. My OP6T was top of the line back then 700$ was already expensive, and still goes great today, I hope I stay secure with mine, as no updates are available anymore. Otherwise still perfectly functioning device.
@eb948c00 phones are just getting more powerful because they can these days. I work on mobile 3D games and my years old OnePlus5 can run anything I make just as well as my Pixel 7 pro can, within reason of course. Also, phones are boring. They lost their magic 10 years ago. It doesn't matter how many fancy sensors or better cameras you cram into one. Any serious photographer is not using their phone anyway and Instagram pictures look the same now as they did back in 2015.
@eb948c00 I can guarantee you that my next Smartphone will be a Fairphone. Even if the EU ruling that tech has to be servicable and batteries replaceable has an impact - fairphone is the only smartphone company I know that lets you replace not only your battery easily. Should I ever buy another Laptop then it will also be a Frame.Work. I'm so done with expensive and compex tech as a throwaway item or efven worse - a lifestyle accesoire.
