I eat the blackberries until the alders then the Douglas or the hemlock or the cedar take over. Unless I want the spot for something else. Blackberries if you get a good ripe crop without it drying out is a good indicator for growing fruit trees without the need for watering. Just need to make the spot a little more fertile.
