You don't know how many people are using it though.
 Nostr is inherently different.

It has long term identities at its core.
The fact that I can make a personal relay, whitelist my friends and have them ONLY connect to my node means you can never know ACCURATE user count.
Yes but that may as well be irrelevant in user counts.

Also, they probably use public relays too for a public presence
Probably sounds a lot like guessing 😁
 Not really.

Anyone who uses Nostr for private use also would realize the benefit of switching to it for a public presence.
Are you able to count all of those relays in China behind the firewall? 😂
Please do send me socket street address and happy to tag the building manager for money making purposes.

 Yay 🥳 I’m learning 😂🫡

How many alts do entities have? How many are #AI already? Bot 🤖 farms are prevalent everywhere. Narrative warfare never takes a break.

Hence conservationists & pollinators.

Who's to say my 100-1000 friends aren't a relevant user base? I have unannounced lightning channels with private people are those transactions not valid?

(I am talking about specific Npubs for that relay as a sort of club chat) using a public relay would get your Npub Blacklisted.
You would use relay hints inside of events to discover new relays automatically. Then you connect to those and keep downloading and crawling. Similar to how Google crawlers use links to find the whole web. Primal's Nostr crawler does this.
Last time I checked it was hardcoded
