Wonderful fact of the day about James Henry Salisbury (yes, his namesake is the Salisbury steak!):

This guy was one of the OG carnivore doctors (I think he might have been the first in U.S.) who believed meat was the main thing humans needed to eat, eschewing most everything else (or at least, thinking other foods were unnecessary but not harmful, sparingly). He also believed the reason Civil War soldiers suffered scurvy was due to the lack of fresh meat available in the bases, not from lack of fresh fruits & vegetables (look it up, please).

Huh. That's fascinating. I've not heard this before!
Here's the backstory in a video I saw just today: (PS - The History Guy is a great YT channel)

Nice little history interlude for the day. Thanks. 👍🏻
 YW 😃
The story of scurvy is very interesting by itself (and telling about modern science).

It was well known what's the cause, but then science came and made totally wrong assumption causing return of scurvy as issue.
We'd been learning revised history for ages. There's so much to unlearn!
