First experiment with solar powered mining. Small scale, but it works! #bitcoin #mining #renewable #solar #nerdminer

Love it! I see โ€œrenewableโ€ as marketing speak, executed quite well by the industry. To me, the beauty of small scale solar is that you are independent of the grid!

Question: do you have battery storage for the part of the day where there is no sun?
Not yet, but adding a small powerbank will be the next iteration

Nice, but a bit outside my budget for playing around

I should post mine when I get home. Solar feels so good.
 Yes please!

I got home pretty late but here it is. https://image.nostr.build/9911d7ffbc1c2cb5f4fab0c7a50baf7a35731eb6c082e3c3bcc87be38eba992a.jpg

That's nice! I little bigger than my experiment ๐Ÿ˜„

After a full day charging the S9 runs at 1000w for about an hour and 15 minutes. Not exactly the best use but, It's a fun little "free" hash booster. (I could put my Bitaxe on it all day but that battery unit has no power pass-through so I have to turn it on after they charge.)

Is that direct DC? I need to check out those Little miners
 It's a USB connection, that's all I know

 Niiiiice! Sun-powered lottery-ticket.
Easily scalable too
 I like that description ๐Ÿ˜„
Nice!! Is all that hardware water proof ๐Ÿ‘€
Not at all! ๐Ÿ˜† The solar panel probably, but the tiny miner isn't. This isn't a permanent installation
Would be cool to like 3D print waterproof enclosures for everything that isnโ€™t waterproof ๐Ÿ”ฅ
True. 3D printing is a rabbit hole for tomorrow me though ๐Ÿ˜„ but one I am actually thinking about more lately.
Now I imagine the miner with a little roof on top. Wouldn't that be cute ๐Ÿ˜„
 ๐Ÿซก ๐Ÿ›ธ
โ–ฒ โ–ผ
Thatโ€™s so cool, how does it all work? Show us the way ๐Ÿซก
There is really not much I did, just connected the miner to the panel via usb and put it outside ๐Ÿ˜„
โ–ฒ โ–ผ
How many W does your solar panel provide? Does this only mine during day or is it connected to a battery?
It's a 6 Watts panel. No battery yet, I am testing how long I can run the miner from a small powerbank and then maybe put it in between
โ–ฒ โ–ผ
Very nice! I really have to try this.
Seeโ€ฆthis is the type of stuff Iโ€™d like to get into as a foray into solar power.

Is that white box the miner?

Mind providing links to the miner and panel?

(For example, we are on a well still connected to the grid but Iโ€™d love at least as a backup to have a solar panel I could connect to it or even my generator)

Messing with electricity is a bit out of my current skill set!

Also I hate the idea of getting things permitted (meaning paying the feesโ€ฆIโ€™m all for standard codes so I donโ€™t kill myself LOl)

โ€ฆso something like youโ€™ve got here is portable and I could move it outside or keep it there and if someone said something I could move it and indicate it isnโ€™t permanent so no permit required!
Hello, yes the small white box is the miner. Be aware that this is super small scale though, you won't have revenue with this. It's pure lottery mining.

That said:
The panel is a 6W panel with a USB plug that I got from Amazon. I checked today but the link doesn't work anymore. I am sure there will be similar offers though.
I know zero about electricity so I needed plug & play for this. ๐Ÿ˜…

The miner is an ESP32 chip in a small case with display and fan. It does around 56kh/s and takes around 1W.
I got it from here: https://nerdminer.de/en

The rest was a mic stand, a bit of wire and some double-sided sticky tape ๐Ÿ˜†
