Trad published? Self-published? How's that working out?

I'll be honest, after everything I keep reading, I don't think I'm interested in trad publishing. From the outside, it looks like it's more about proving something to oneself with an added layer of constant criticism. My anxiety doesn't need that. 😅
I'm going the self-pub route. I don't expect to get much attention or money, which is also what I would expect chasing trad pub too. Just writing and releasing for the love of it. One day it'd be nice if it could cover the electric bill, but I'm keeping expectations low. So maybe that should tell everyone how things are going 🤣

I queried because I thought I had to, but my heart was never in it. Self-publishing has been so much more satisfying.

 @9f1caa36 that all sounds very realistic to me, though my financial goal for about the next decade is for the books to pay the cost of their editing and cover design and advertising... which feels a little ambitious at the minute 😉 (not that I've so much as dipped my toes in the advertising waters yet).
