Stratum v2 is great, but I wonder if it really makes any sense to operate a pool as a company in the US (like Ocean) and expect that you will avoid attack from the authorities (wrt kyc and censorship). Custody arguments will probably not convince the thugs.
I've always found the concept of pools a bit bewildering - shares are cool in a non adversarial environment but 'block withholding attacks' - is it really an attack if your house is made out of paper, and the wind picks up?
If you solve that attack, there will be 10 others.
Easy for me to wisecrack but tbh i don't have solutions.
agree, i think braidpool or similar lines of thought are going to be most productive longterm
Someone needs to rebuild p2pool but with faster blocks and tradable shares…that’s the real solution but it’s a ton of work.
Where would one find this?
Could this be done as a Fedimint module?
Doing it as a fedimint module adds no value.
see that now that I understand what p2pool is. Just trying to noodle around the miners running a single S9 that trickle in sats/shares but don't have meaningful impact otherwise. I suppose it's more of a question of how can we make dust UTXOs useful or usable?
I don't have a solution either.
However, giving the thugs something to chew on, gives time for the brains to find something else.
Buying time is valuable in this case.
Burning their resssources is also valuable.
Sure. Not like it's a negative to do stuff like stratum v2 and just, have other viable pools trying to do it better
