They have been doing it for a long time! Let me give you an exemple that people don't talk about. For decades, kids have been taken (by force) from their custodial parent based only on economic reasons. Most of the times, these kids end up in state-run institutions. What are the causes of lack of economic capacity of the parent?What are the consequences for the kids, their mental and social development? Also, what consequences in context of family (sibiling, grandparents...)?  

 Sometimes they were taken for religious reasons, or because they were born into the wrong race. Even longer ago they were stolen from one trible by another because their parents  were sturdy and looked like they might produce good fighters.

Sadly it's in our very nature to take what we want and justify it later. Maybe we'll get better, one day...
